The Cloud is Here. Now What?

For the past few years, it was a safe bet that the technology priorities for chief technology officers in broadcast and other professional media verticals involved a move to the cloud, however where it fell on the list of priorities varied widely. With so many media and technology professionals “finding the time” to move their infrastructure to the cloud, it was happening on the weekend, in the evenings, during quiet days in the office, and for some, it was little more than a hobby. The pandemic changed priorities heavily by demanding a development that has been a long time coming—a complete move to the cloud.

Access:VFX E-Mentoring Program Grows, Annual Report Shows

The e-mentoring program of Access:VFX, the industry-led non-profit coalition of leading visual effects, animation and games studios, has to date connected more than 1000 mentors and mentees across the globe. The Prospela run platform features members from Framestore, Blue Zoo and DNEG, among others, and has helped talented up-and-coming creatives from varying backgrounds and ages.

Globalization, Localization and the EGA

Last month, ten founding companies and 50 forming companies announced the formation of the Entertainment Globalization Association to create a closer connection to the creative community to better facilitate the retelling of their stories for global audiences. Globalization is defined as dubbing, subtitling, and audio description services, which allow content to be consumed in languages other than the original version. The EGA’s ten founding companies are Audiomaster Candiani, Deluxe, Hiventy, Iyuno Media Group, Keywords Studios, Plint, SDI Media, Visual Data Media Services, VSI, and Zoo Digital. The additional 50 companies represent high caliber service providers from all around the world. Chris Fetner was named managing director of the association

CTC Announces 2020 Award Winners

The trade group Cinema Technology Community announced the recipients of its 2020 awards at its special online event, One Community Day. More than 400 industry professionals registered for the five-hour charity focused event, which was held November 26 and hosted by film critic, author and broadcaster Mark Kermode and CTC’s Dave Norris.
