SMPTE Receives Epic Games Grant to Jumpstart Establishing VR Standards

Colorists Society Names Osborne to its Board of Directors

The Colorist Society has named Mark Todd Osborne to its board of directors. Osborne is a Los Angeles-based senior colorist with more than 200 film and television credits. As a board member, he will be involved governing, managing, and planning for the organization. He will also act as an ambassador for CSI to other industry organizations and the wider professional community. Osborne joins Kevin Shaw, president; Sarah Priestnall, vice president; and Hugh Heinsohn, secretary/treasurer, on the CSI board.

Colorists Society Launches Hollywood Chapter

The Colorist Society has launched Colorist Society Hollywood, an exclusive, invitation-only group of color finishing artists. The group’s mission is to advocate for their craft, support diversity initiatives, and create educational opportunities for its members and associated industry partners. They will also seek to deepen CSI’s ties to other industry organizations and the wider entertainment industry.

EGA Finds Localization Issues Hampering Creative Community

The Entertainment Globalization Association has released a report on consumer viewing habits of localized content versions. The EGA, working in part with Whip Media, surveyed more than 15,000 consumers from France, Italy, Germany, and Spain (FIGS) regarding their viewing habits on streaming platforms. The overall findings indicate that 61 percent of respondents encountered poor localization quality on a monthly basis, and perhaps more concerning, that nearly 65 percent have stopped watching a movie or TV show in the last year as a result.

PGA, Google Announce The Short Film Project

The Producers Guild of America and Google have announced up to two $50,000 grants as part of The Short Film Project presented by the Producers Guild and Google. This opportunity is offered exclusively to PGA Create Fellows from its recent scripted lab for emerging and mid-career creative producers from backgrounds underrepresented in the industry. This new opportunity extends Google’s previously announced lead sponsorship of the PGA Create lab.

Next Color Space Cadet Session Scheduled for October 28

HPA Young Entertainment Professionals Program Opens Call for Applications

The Hollywood Professional Association has opened the call for applications for its 2022 Young Entertainment Professionals program. Since its inception in 2015, the growing YEP program has supported the careers of talented creative, technical, project management and administrative professionals between the ages of 21 and 32 through mentorship, community building and educational offerings. Applications are due Monday, November 8 and applicants will be notified of their status in early December.

Barbara Lange to Leave SMPTE

SMPTE, the home of media professionals, technologists, and engineers, today announced that Barbara Lange will step down as the Society's executive director at the close of 2021, which marks the end of her current contract. Lange has served in this role for 12 years, guiding SMPTE through a dynamic period of growth, extending the Society's leadership as a global standards organization, and working closely with staff, volunteers, members, and the SMPTE Board of Governors to make SMPTE a more inclusive organization that brings value to individuals and organizations across the media and entertainment industry.
