Göteborg Opens Call for Film Fund Residencies

In cooperation with The University of Gothenburg and Region Västra Götaland, the Göteborg Film Fund 2022 is now opening the call for three residencies with a duration of three months each. The Göteborg Film Fund is an initiative from Göteborg Film Festival to support films and filmmakers in regions where filmmaking is difficult, due to economic or political reasons.

Kathryn Jacob Named President of SAWA Global Cinema Advertising Association

SAWA Global Cinema Advertising Association has announced that Kathryn Jacob OBE has been named president-elect of the global trade body. Jacob will assume the role when Florian Weischer, CEO Weischer.Cinema, steps down after an eight-year term on August 1. She will be the first female president in SAWA’s 68-year history.

Arri Supports Canadian Society of Cinematographers with Major Donation

Arri will support the Canadian Society of Cinematographers’ The Future is Calling campaign with a contribution of $300,000 in Canadian currency. The $3.75 million campaign, launched in November, will support a national outreach, education, internship, and online educational program to break down barriers marginalized communities face in accessing jobs in the film and television industry. The campaign has received support from the industry, government, and philanthropic funders. More than half the goal has been pledged to date.

The PNYA continues to grow as New York’s post-production industry expands and more companies and individual professionals seek to support its mission of advocating for the state’s media tax credit program and other issues of common interest.

SMPTE, OSA Media Microservices Summit Begins May 11 in New York

SMPTE, the home of media professionals, technologists, and engineers, is partnering with the Open Services Alliance for media to present the Media Microservices Summit, hosted by Microsoft in New York City, May 11-12. The free two-day event will offer a comprehensive review of current progress and future initiatives aimed at bringing interoperability to media processing in the cloud and to microservices in particular.

Two Latinx Filmmakers Get NYWIFT Grants

New York Women in Film & Television will provide film production grants to El Pueblo vs. Austeridad / The People vs. Austerity and Coquito. The projects come from two of the 12 media making teams selected for Good Pitch Local Puerto Rico, where they pitched live from Puerto Rico via webcast to a group of advisors, with connections to non-governmental organizations, distributors, and foundations.

Rebekah Hernandez: Hard Work Pays Off

Rebekah Hernandez is a Post New York Association board member and a post-production supervisor whose recent credits include the Sundance Grand Jury Prize winning film The Forty-Year-Old Version and Showtime’s hit series Billions. A native New Yorker, Hernandez has come a long way since she landed her first job as a production assistant in 2013, but it hasn’t been easy. It took time to find someone willing to give her a shot and she experienced a few false starts, but her hard work and persistence eventually paid off, and now the sky’s the limit.
