Dolby Laboratories and the Kuwait National Cinema Company have entered into a three-screen agreement for the first deployments of Dolby Cinema in Kuwait. The first site is expected to open later this year at the 360 Mall in Kuwait City with KNCC operating under the Cinescape brand.
South Africa’s Nu Metro Cinemas is opening Xtreme theatres at Nu Metro Emperors Palace in Johannesburg and Nu Metro Galleria on the KZN South Coast.
The Odeon Cinemas Group has agreed to install seven Dolby Cinemas, marking the premium large format’s first implementation in the UK. Additionally, Odeon Cinemas Group has confirmed that Dolby servers, processors, and speakers will be utilized for all of its European entities going forward.

During the 50s and 60s the Lichtburg was one of the most important premiere cinemas of the Federal Republic. GDC Technology announced today that cinema owners around the world are quickly adopting its innovative SX-4000 immersive sound media server with a built-in DTS:X decoder, and the XSP-1000 cinema processor immersive sound system. To date, the system has been installed, or committed to installing, in more than 850 screens. With more than 40 movies being released worldwide in DTS:X format in 2018, a host of new cinema owners are installing the GDC Immersive Sound Solution. Additionally, several leading U.S. circuits, such as B&B Theatres, are expanding their current DTS:X immersive sound footprint by adding 14 new screens in 2018.
The Walt Disney Studios has announced twenty titles to be shown at Dolby Cinema locations around the globe. The titles include releases from Disney, Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, Pixar, and Walt Disney Animation Studios. Among the new releases are two Star Wars titles and Incredibles 2.
Guangzhou Jinyi Media Corporation, owner of Jinyi Cinemas, one of the largest cinema circuits in China, and Dolby Laboratories today announced a partnership to open 20 Dolby Cinema locations in China in the following four years. Jinyi is also committed to deploy 630 Dolby digital cinema systems in China, including Dolby Integrated Media Servers, Dolby cinema audio processors, Dolby Multichannel Amplifiers, and SLS Cinema Series Speaker Systems.
Dolby today announced an upgraded line of multichannel amplifiers that allows users to replace up to 16 stereo amplifiers, while saving space, reducing heat and lowering overall costs. Available in either 16, 24 or 32 channel configurations, with the 16 channel configuration now available with enhanced power handling for lower impedance loudspeakers, the changes allow the amplifier to work in traditional 5.1/7.1 multichannel audio rooms as well as continuing to provide amplification for Dolby Atmos surround channels and screen channels.
Jay Wyatt has joined QSC Cinema as sales engineer. In his new role, Wyatt will be primarily responsible for pre-sales technical support, product training, and cinema system design consulting.
