With 13 screens and more than 2,800 seats, Toho Cinemas Hibiya is the first cinema complex in Ginza/Hibiya area of Japan and the most elaborately decorated movie theatre. In order to ensure an impactful and immersive cinematic audio experience with balanced coverage for every seat in the theater, Toho Cinemas hired Xebex to install a premium surround sound system. To provide coverage from front to back, Xebex selected JBL Professional 9350 sculpted surround speakers for their superior coverage and brilliant sound quality.

Exhibitors Embracing GDC’s Immersive Sound Solution

GDC Technology announced today that cinema owners around the world are quickly adopting its innovative SX-4000 immersive sound media server with a built-in DTS:X decoder, and the XSP-1000 cinema processor immersive sound system. To date, the system has been installed, or committed to installing, in more than 850 screens. With more than 40 movies being released worldwide in DTS:X format in 2018, a host of new cinema owners are installing the GDC Immersive Sound Solution. Additionally, several leading U.S. circuits, such as B&B Theatres, are expanding their current DTS:X immersive sound footprint by adding 14 new screens in 2018.

Guangzhou Jinyi Media to Open 20 Dolby Cinemas in China

Guangzhou Jinyi Media Corporation, owner of Jinyi Cinemas, one of the largest cinema circuits in China, and Dolby Laboratories today announced a partnership to open 20 Dolby Cinema locations in China in the following four years. Jinyi is also committed to deploy 630 Dolby digital cinema systems in China, including Dolby Integrated Media Servers, Dolby cinema audio processors, Dolby Multichannel Amplifiers, and SLS Cinema Series Speaker Systems.

Dolby Upgrades Multichannel Amplifier Line

Dolby today announced an upgraded line of multichannel amplifiers that allows users to replace up to 16 stereo amplifiers, while saving space, reducing heat and lowering overall costs. Available in either 16, 24 or 32 channel configurations, with the 16 channel configuration now available with enhanced power handling for lower impedance loudspeakers, the changes allow the amplifier to work in traditional 5.1/7.1 multichannel audio rooms as well as continuing to provide amplification for Dolby Atmos surround channels and screen channels.
