Cinépolis Reopens Historic Bay Theatre

Cinépolis USE announced today that its Bay Theatre in Pacific Palisades, California, will reopen this Friday, November 9. The theatre, which was originally designed in 1948 by one of the most prolific American motion pictures theaters architects, S. Charles Lee, will reopen in Palisades Village after being closed for 40 years. The new facility will feature five ultra-lux, customized screening rooms each with over-the-top amenities that cater to one of Southern California’s most coveted communities for families and privacy-seeking celebrities.

MixCine, China, to Open Dolby Cinemas

Dolby and the Wanying Cinema Line Company Limited have announced a partnership to extend the Dolby Cinema experience to more moviegoers in China. The exhibitor, which is wholly owned by China Resources Land Limited, operates movie theatres across China with the brand MixCine. The first location under the agreement is expected to be open at Wanying’s flagship site in Shenzhen with more locations to come in Southeast China in the following two years.

CinemaNext, ATG Announce Licensing Agreement

CinemaNext today announced a new technology licensing agreement with US-based Adaptive Technologies Group for its PS Box boothless cinema system. Under this exclusive agreement, Adaptive will manufacture the PS Box at their factory in southern Los Angeles and sell it in select territories including the USA, Canada, Mexico, Latin America and Australia & New Zealand.

CGR Upgrades Premium Rooms with Christie

CGR Cinemas in France is upgrading its premium screens across its nationwide chain with Christie Solaria CP42LH RGB laser projectors. Cine Digital Service will manage and support the installations. The projectors will be part of CGR’s new Premium Room concept, which is to be unveiled at selected cinemas across France. Openings begin in December.

AMC, Dolby Accelerate Development Plans

In response to what they say has been impressive guest reaction and the overwhelming success of Dolby Cinema at AMC in its first full year, Dolby Laboratories and AMC Theatres today announced plans to accelerate Dolby Cinema at AMC installations to 100 operational sites by the end of 2017, seven years ahead of the originally announced schedule. The original agreement, reached in 2015, was for 100 auditoriums over a 10-year deployment.

Disney Releasing Seven Films for Dolby Cinema

Dolby and Walt Disney Studios have announced seven new titles to be shown at Dolby Cinema locations around the world. The upcoming titles include Disney’s Pete’s Dragon, due out August 12; Marvel’s Doctor Strange, due out November 4; Disney’s Moana, due out November 23; Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, due out March 17, 2017; Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, due out May 5, 2017; Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, due out May 26, 2017; and Disney•Pixar’s Cars 3, due out June 16, 2017.
