Egyptian cinematic subtitling and translation specialists TheyDoe Academy have received SubtitleNext Academy Partner certification. Established in 2019, TheyDoe Academy provides dedicated subtitling training for Netflix and other media companies across the Middle East and internationally.
Specialist audiovisual translation firm IT Pros Subtitles has invested in the Next-TT localization platform to manage and organize its expanding remote workflow infrastructure. Next-TT enables IT Pros to manage teams of freelance translators, and offers remote access to SubtitleNext’s proprietary tools, technologies, and delivery capabilities.

In collaboration with the Manufacturing Enterprise Solutions Association, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers is bringing the media industry's first human- and machine-readable Language Metadata Table into its public review process, an early step toward SMPTE standardization. Published as a SMPTE Public Committee Draft, the vetted and approved list of language codes will be readily available for public comment, implementation, and validation.
This week, the organizers of the Languages & the Media Conference, which will be held in Berlin September 20-22, 2021, are hosting a virtual roundtable in order to offer the motion picture community an opportunity to catch up on what has been happening in the world of content localization and accessibility this year. With the growth of Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime and Apple TV, to name just a few, the international audience for film and television has never been bigger or more diverse. And the need for accurate and coherent subtitles – both for artistic and economic reasons – has never been more important. For two decades Dr. Vasilis Manousakis, the Literature, Literary and Audiovisual Translation instructor at Hellenic American College in Athens, Greece, has been subtitling and translating a broad range of genres, series and films produced by HBO, Disney, Universal Pictures, Warner Bros. and Netflix, among them Lost, The Good Place, Star Wars and Game of Thrones.
The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto will host an online product demonstration titled Media Accessibility, Creative Captioning and Subtitling. The demonstration will cover the SubtitleNext software Profuz Digital. The online event takes place via Zoom on Wednesday August 5 at 4:00 p.m. EDT, with American Sign Language provided throughout the presentation.
