ICE Theatre Format Coming to L.A. in the Fall

French multiplex company CGR Cinemas has announced that the first ICE Theatre in the United States will be debuting this fall at Regal L.A. Live: A Barco Innovation Center in downtown Los Angeles. The ICE (Immersive Cinema Experience) Theatre concept launched two-and-a-half years ago, combining state-of-the-art design and excellence in sound and image technologies with the revolutionary ICE sensorial experience.

Harkness Upgrading Digital Screen Technology Platform

Harkness Screens has announced a major investment in its digital screen technology platform. Launched in 2013, the Harkness digital screen software offers a number of tools, which are designed to help architects, exhibitors and installers to ensure they are creating the correct specification and design of cinema screens. These tools range from the Digital Screen Modeller, a real-time 3D simulation tool for visualising on-screen presentation quality through to the Digital Screen Verifier, a light measurement app for the iPhone.

ScreenX Breaks its Own Box Office Record

ScreenX, the panoramic format from CJ 4DPlex, has grossed $22 million in the worldwide box office in five months, surpassing its own box office record from the same time last year. This marks a 85 percent surge in box office gross and the fastest record-breaking milestone in the history of the innovative format. Spider-Man Far From Home is scheduled to release in ScreenX on July 5th.

Putting the Grand in Grand

This past February, DTS and CJ 4DPlex announced a strategic alliance to bring DTS:X immersive audio technology to ScreenX theatres worldwide. What the companies didn’t announce at the time was that their first joint project together was already up and running in Liberty, Kansas. B&B Theatres brands their premium large format offerings as Grand Screens, which counts as typical Midwestern understatement because, at four stories tall and seven stories wide, the new B&B Theatres Liberty 12 currently features the largest ScreenX auditorium in the world.
