Favreau Talks about The Jungle Book

Disney’s The Jungle Book is the first film released in the U.S. in Dolby Vision 3D and is available at two Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime locations: Empire 25 in New York City and Hawthorn in Chicago. In this video director John Favreau shares how the movie sets a new bar for beautiful visuals and the 3D movie-going experience. “Whatever hesitation people might have in going to see a 3D movie I think completely goes away,” he says, “because the brightness of the image, the quality of the lenses and the fact that…the glasses just disappear and you’re watching a crystal clear image where you feel like you just climb onto the screen is a game changer.”

Cooke Adds to Anamorphic/i Lens Range

Cooke Optics has introduced its second front Anamorphic/i zoom lens, the 45-405mm zoom. In addition, the 35-140mm Anamorphic/i wide angle zoom is expected to start shipping over the summer. The 45-405mm T4.5-22, front Anamorphic/i zoom lens has preliminary specifications featuring 9x zoom front anamorphic, 5’10” MOD from image plane and 3’11” close focus from the front of the lens. True to Cooke style, the color and contrast will match the rest of the series.

Guardians 2 Turns to Red 8K, Codex

Director James Gunn is using Red’s 8K Weapon camera on Marvel’s latest cosmic adventures in Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2. Behind-the-scenes, Codex workflow systems, operated by Santa Monica, London and Atlanta based production services company Shed, are enabling the smooth and speedy transition of a river of 8K data from on-set into post production. The cinematographer on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is Henry Braham BSC, who previously used Red Epic cameras on The Legend of Tarzan. He is one of the first DPs to deploy the new Red Weapon camera, fitted with the 8K Red Dragon sensor, on a long-form show, describing it as “the little big camera. Perfectly counterintuitive. And perfect for this production.”
