Panasonic Unveils AU-EVA1 Cinema Camera

New York City and Los Angeles-area cinematographers and filmmakers are invited to attend an exclusive first look of Panasonic’s new AU-EVA1 cinema camera. The events will include the screening of short films shot with the new cinema camera and a question-and-answer session with the films’ cinematographers who will discuss shooting with the EVA1.

IBC’s Big Screen to Explore the Art, Science and Business of Cinema

This year’s IBC Big Screen program will take place in a specially built auditorium designed to IBC’s specifications and featuring the very latest in cinema technology, including Dolby Vision imaging and Dolby Atmos immersive sound. The four-day program will examine the latest topics, themes, and insights surrounding the art, science, and business of cinema, from capture through to exhibition. As well as being the home of the Big Screen program, the auditorium will screen in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, Baby Driver, the acclaimed Edgar Wright feature from 2017.

ASC Technology Committee Changes Focus, Name

The ASC Technology Committee has been renamed the ASC Motion Imaging Technology Council. Established in 2003, the committee has helped organize efforts to study and assess subjects ranging from digital cameras and lens optics to motion imaging workflows, advanced color management, virtual production techniques digital archiving and more recently virtual reality.

March on Washington Film Festival Hires First Executive Director

The March on Washington Film Festival, a nonprofit entity of the Raben Group, has hired Samantha Abrams as executive director. This announcement comes on the heels of the group’s most successful festival to date as it strives to build on its recent success. Abrams is a longtime Washington D.C.-based corporate and nonprofit business leader.

Reel Thing Convenes August 24

The Reel Thing, a symposium that supports the Association of Moving Image Archivists, will open with the U.S. premiere of a new restoration of the Oscar-nominated 1960 film La Verite (The Truth). Two additional new 4K restorations also will be shown during The Reel Thing, including the U.S. premiere of Howard Hawks’ Scarface and the world premiere of Alex Cox’s Sid and Nancy. The Reel Thing takes place August 24-26 at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood.
