Entertainment Industry Mentoring Group Formed

A coalition of leading trade and professional groups has formed a non-profit organization to provide mentoring services to young people seeking behind-the-scenes careers in the media and entertainment industry. The Entertainment Industry Professionals Mentoring Alliance, or EIPMA, plans to nurture the industry’s next generation of talent by offering expert guidance to high school and college students, military veterans and others seeking to launch their careers, and by hosting job fairs, panel discussions and other public events.

Goldcrest Forms Partnership with Glue Edit

Post facility Goldcrest Post is expanding its footprint in independent film and documentary finishing through key additions to its creative roster. The company has forged a partnership with Glue Edit, the finishing boutique led by colorist and Emmy award-winning editor Ken Sirulnick. Sirulnick, along with his long-time post-production coordinator Jordan Thompson-DeSon, will take up residence at Goldcrest. Additionally, Goldcrest has signed freelance colorist/editor Evan Anthony, whose credits include Sundance Grand Jury Prize nominee Moonlight Sonata, to a staff position.

Grainne Peat: Event Cinema is Growing

Last July the Event Cinema Association announced that Grainne Peat would be its new managing director, replacing founder Melissa Cogavin who left to pursue other opportunities. Cogavin, who established the ECA in 2012 left behind an internationally recognized brand and the primary trade body for the alternative content sector. By all accounts, she left the ECA in good hands. Since taking the reins officially last October, Peat has quietly put her own stamp on things.

Zeiler to Join Arri’s Executive Board

The Supervisory Board of the Arri Group, at its meeting yesterday, decided to appoint a new member to its executive board of the Arri Group which currently consists of Dr. Joerg Pohlman and Dr. Michael Neuhaeuser. Effective April 1 Markus Zeiler, until now head of the business unit lighting at Arri, will join them on the board. His new area of responsibility within the board will be the management of Arri’s global rental business.

Supervising Sound Editors Sullivan and DeCristofaro Join Sony Pictures

Supervising sound editors Becky Sullivan and Andrew DeCristofaro, who share a 2015 Academy Award nomination for their work on Unbroken, have joined Sony Pictures Post Production Services. The pair has collaborated on numerous films over the years, including this year’s Best Picture Academy Award winner Green Book, with DeCristofaro as supervising sound editor and Sullivan as automated dialogue replacement supervisor. Sony Pictures is building theater-style studios with sound design and mixing capabilities for the two sound artists on the studio lot.

Beiersdorf to Receive the 2019 Ken Mason Inter-Society Award

Cinema-industry veteran Susie Beiersdorf, vice president of sales, cinema – The Americas, Christie, has been selected as the 2019 recipient of the Ken Mason Inter-Society Award. The Ken Mason Award honors an individual who has made outstanding long-term contributions leading to the overall improvement of the motion picture experience. The announcement was made today by Paul Holliman, president, The Inter-Society for the Enhancement of Cinema Presentation. Beiersdorf will receive the award at a ceremony held at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on April 4.

1606 Studio Names Sornslip Head of Production

San Francisco-based 1606 Studio, formerly Made-SF, has hired veteran post-production producer Vickie Sornsilp as head of production. Sornsilp, whose background includes senior positions with One Union Recording and Beast Editorial, will oversee editorial and post-production finishing projects for the studio, launched last month by executive producer Jon Ettinger, editor/director Doug Walker and editors Brian Lagerhausen and Connor McDonald.

Digital Cinema Projection Pioneer Jack Kline Steps Down After 40 Years at Christie

Christie has announced that Jack Kline, a pioneer in digital cinema technology and an architect of the innovative virtual print fee that accelerated the adoption of digital projection in movie theaters and created a revolution in global entertainment, is stepping down as chairman, president and CEO of Christie after 40 years with the company, effective April 1. Current chief financial officer Kazuhisa Kamiyama will assume the role as chairman and CEO, while Kline remains at the company as an executive advisor to the CEO until April 1, 2020 to assist in a smooth transition.
