Ian Sheppard has been appointed head of development at Laika, the award-winning animation studio known for the films Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings and Missing Link. A veteran animation executive, Sheppard’s career has included senior positions at Skydance Animation, DreamWorks Animation and Nickelodeon. He will report directly to Laika president & CEO Travis Knight.
Senior colorist Alex Berman has joined the team at Goldcrest Post. Berman brings more than 20 years of experience in color grading and credits across feature films, episodic television, documentaries and commercials.
Liquid Media Group has appointed Ronald Thomson as its CEO to drive the growth of its evolving business. As president of the global business development firm Cameron Thomson Group, he has been building successful media/entertainment and tech companies for more than two decades from its offices in Toronto, London, Lake Como, Los Angeles and Taipei.
Late last year, Deluxe Entertainment appointed George Eyles executive vice president and general manager, worldwide cinema. The move marks a return for Eyles, who at one time was Deluxe’s managing director of digital cinema, EMEA. Prior to rejoining Deluxe, he was at Maccs, a Vista Group company, where he served as CEO and led Vista’s Numero box office reporting business. Previous to that Eyles served at Arqiva where he was responsible for the deployment of a pan-European electronic delivery network for cinema and creating that company’s live event services delivering hundreds of live alternative events to cinemas around the world; and for creating and implementing systems and frameworks in areas including asset deliverables and technical operations, optimization of operational efficiencies, creation, localization and distribution of content assets in the digital cinema and digital platform spaces. I spoke with Eyles via email just as he was settling into his new job, which is where our conversation began.
SMPTE today announced that the members newly elected and returning to the SMPTE Board of Governors have begun the 2021-22 term. The board includes experienced SMPTE leaders, some moving into new roles, as well as several new additions.
One Union Recording Studios, the Bay Area’s largest, independent recording facility, has added senior engineer Eduardo Mendoza to its mix staff. Mendoza arrives from a similar post with Facebook and brings more than 15 years of experience in audio recording, editing and mixing for broadcast, digital, corporate and other media.
Matt Scott has joined media and entertainment storage company GB Labs to further develop the company’s presence in the Americas. As solutions architect and pre-sales engineer, Scott will be based in California, and work with both resellers and end users.
New York Women in Film & Television has presented two filmmakers with grants funded by the Alan M. & Mildred S. Ravenal Foundation. The NYWIFT Ravenal Foundation Grant supports the production of a feature film from a female director over 40. Funds may be used for pre-production, production, or post-production.
