National CineMedia announced today that president Clifford E. Marks is retiring as of July 1. He will continue working with NCM on major new initiatives, corporate development, and affiliate partnerships as a consultant in a multi-year agreement through his new strategic media and marketing company, CMarksCo, LLC.
The social cinema platform Kinema has appointed Ryan Harrington, a veteran film executive who helped build premier theatrical documentary divisions within National Geographics, A&E, Discovery, and the Tribeca Film Institute, as the company’s first head of film.
An Adelaide native, Chelsea Mirus trained at Rising Sun Pictures in 2016 while working toward a Media Arts degree from the University of South Australia. Moving quickly into a staff position as a visual effects coordinator at RSP, she worked on a string of high-profile projects including Captain Marvel, Alita: Battle Angel, Thor: Ragnarok and Game of Thrones. Then, in 2019, she accepted a post with Important Looking Pirates, a VFX studio based in Stockholm, Sweden, and moved halfway around the globe to become part of a team attached to such hit shows as The Mandalorian, Westworld, Lost in Space and The Stand.
Cooke Optics has appointed Adrian Keane to the role of chief financial officer. Reporting to CEO Tim Pugh, Keane will be responsible for all financial aspects of the business as it continues to grow operationally and geographically.
The Board of Governors of the American Society of Cinematographers has voted on the organization’s 2021-2022 officers and Stephen Lighthill has been re-elected president. He will serve his next one-year term alongside vice presidents Amy Vincent, Steven Fierberg and John Simmons; treasurer Steven Poster; secretary Gregg Heschong; and sergeant-at-arms Jim Denault.
AFI Docs, the American Film Institute's documentary film festival, has announced that it will honor Dawn Porter as the 2021 Charles Guggenheim Symposium honoree. The festival runs June 22-27.
VFX Legion has announced the signing of veteran VFX producer Tony Gallardo. He will work in the company’s British Columbia office with Dylan Yastremski, Legion Studios/B.C.’s head of production and partner, and VFX supervisor/founder James David Hattin, who oversees the company’s global creative resources from its Burbank studio.
Feature film and television colorist Aidan Stanford has joined ArsenalFX Color. Stanford is a 25-year industry veteran whose recent credits include the hit Lionsgate feature Knives Out as well as the television series Better Call Saul (AMC), Bonding (Netflix), Briarpatch (USA) and Central Park (Apple TV+). He joins a growing post-production finishing department at ArsenalFX Color’s facility in Santa Monica where he will grade episodic television, independent features, studio features and other projects
The event cinema company Iconic Events announced today that the company has enlisted theatrical circuits representing over 1,000 locations to the expanding network of theaters playing its programming, and that Steve Bunnell has been named chief executive officer. The announcement was made by Iconic Events executive chairman Michael Lambert. Iconic will bring audiences the super middleweight fight between Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders on May 8 through a new partnership with DAZN and will bring the rematch of McGregor/Poirer to theaters in the just-announced UFC event on July 10.
National CineMedia has named Eric S. Wohl chief human resources officer. He will be based in the company’s Centennial, Colorado headquarters.
