In July 2021, the Digital Cinema Distribution Coalition named longtime film industry veteran Howard Kiedaisch to take the reigns as CEO, in the wake of Randolph Blotky’s decision to step down. DCDC, the satellite network originally formed by AMC Theatres Regal Entertainment Group, Cinemark Theatres, Universal Pictures, and Warner Bros., now has more than 800 sites that can receive exclusive live cinema events. Digital cinema electronic distribution in the Latin American region is rapidly reaching theatres, delivering studio and independent movies as well as live alternative content. Out of the estimated 12,000 screens in the region (some 2,200 theatres), electronic distribution has been growing to reach more than 6,000 screens. Mexico is the main contributor to the number, as Cinepolis and Cinemex account for more than 5,500 of those screens.
Arts Alliance Media has announced that Howard Kiedaisch will be stepping down as CEO after nine years in the position. John Aalbers, former CEO of telecom industry software provider Volubill, will become CEO effective July 7. In addition AAM’s Cinema distribution division will merge with its content production and finance company, and sister company to AAM, Mr. Wolf. This merger will create a separate, newly integrated content production, finance, distribution and marketing business focused on delivering Event Cinema. The new company will do business under the name Arts Alliance Limited.
The West End triple Olivier Award winning production of Ghosts – the third title in the West End Theatre Series – was shot in high definition by Digital Theatre and will be distributed in UK theatres on June 26. Distributed by CinemaLive, Ghosts will be the first live event cinema production captured in the Dolby Atmos sound format. This working collaboration will not only enhance the already powerful storytelling on stage and screen, but raises the bar for event cinema.
