Pathé Palace Installs Six Samsung Onyx LED Cinema Screens

Samsung Electronics today announced that six Samsung Onyx cinema LED displays have been successfully installed at the Pathé Palace theatre in Paris, France. Together with The Wall, an 8K screen installed in the lobby and Smart Signage around the cinema, Samsung displays will raise the bar on the entire moviegoing experience.

CinemaNext Installing Greta Mobile App in Pathé Cinémas

CinemaNext has signed an agreement with the French cinema circuit Pathé Cinémas to make available for its 77 cinemas across France, the Greta mobile app by Greta & Starks Apps GmbH, a pioneer in the development of solutions for the hearing and visually impaired. The agreement, which is for a period of five years, takes effect immediately.

Trailer Released for French Olympics Documentary

Pi Studios and SRAB Films have begun showing the trailer for Crois Pas Qu’on Dort (Don’t Think We’re Sleeping in English), an inspiring and unique feature-length story of three young French athletes in the lead-up to the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics. The 90-minute French language film, which was developed and produced by Pi Studios with the support of Nike, will premiere in mid-January 2025 followed by a release in theatres at the end of January.

French Cinema Records Best July Box Office Since 2011

According to figures released this week by the Centre National du Cinéma et de l'Image Animée or CNC, the number of French cinema goers for July 2024 is the best on record since 2011. Some 18.71 million admissions were recorded last month, an increase of 2.2 percent over July 2023, which was itself boosted by the success of Barbie and Oppenheimer – the so-called Barbenheimer phenomenon.

Barco today announced a special Cannes screening program showcasing critically acclaimed titles, prepared for and screened in the groundbreaking HDR by Barco format. The carefully curated slate highlights festival winners from Belgium, Italy, Germany, and the United States, making their global debut in breathtaking Barco HDR Lightsteering. Barco’s HDR film series will be held May 16-22 in Theatre 8 at the Cinéum Cannes Theatre.

Ōma Cinema Installs Christie Laser Projection

Ōma Cinema in Mougins, France, has installed Christie projection in the new facility. Inspired by traditional Italian-style opera house balconies – and resembling a futuristic sci-fi layout – Ōma Cinema features innovative architecture, utilizing circular seating pods as part of a premium auditorium concept to improve viewing. Christie partner Cinewest chose the CP4435-RGB laser projector to deliver advanced Digital Cinema Initiative compliant cinema projection, paired with a custom 7.1 sound system.

A Spirit Between Worlds

Directed by Héléna Klotz, La Vénus d'argent (aka Spirit of Ecstasy) tells the story of Jeanne Francoeur (played by Claire Pommet), a young woman striving to escape the circumstances of her birth by morphing into a silent predator in the world of investment banking. Working with Panavision Paris, cinematographer Victor Seguin, AFC employed PVintage and Primo 70 lenses and a Panavised Sony Venice camera to help visualize Jeanne’s contrasting environments. Here, Seguin shares his experiences collaborating with Klotz and finding a unique look for each of Jeanne's worlds.
