National CineMedia has created a new Affiliate Partnerships team dedicated to serving the needs of its more than 40 movie theater affiliates nationwide. Veteran NCM executive Stacie Tursi has been tapped to lead the team in the new role of senior vice president of Affiliate Partnerships, based in the company’s Centennial, Colorado headquarters. Tursi will report directly to NCM president Cliff Marks, who will be taking a more active role working with NCM’s affiliate partners going forward.
AMC Entertainment Holdings has acquired London-based Odeon & UCI Cinemas Holdings Limited from private equity firm Terra Firma. When the transaction closes, expected on or about November 30, the combination of AMC and Odeon & UCI will make AMC the largest movie theatre operator in the world.
Qube Cinema has introduced Qube Wire, an online digital cinema distribution service designed to eliminate the process of physical digital cinema package transportation. Targeted at the international filmmaking community, Qube Wire offers users a secure, patent-pending service to issue key delivery messages and digitally transport DCPs to theatres globally, having completed a highly successful beta-testing phase in India this year. Now in its initial launch, the service offers a simple and secure online way of issuing KDMs to cinemas worldwide. This will be followed by a commercial launch in early 2017 that will enable the global distribution of DCPs with a unique approach to last-mile delivery.
The number of screens in operation utilizing 4DX immersive moving seats has reached 300. The world’s 300th 4DX screen is also the first in Canada, at Cineplex Cinemas Yonge-Dundas and VIP. The theatre opened November 4 with Doctor Strange.
The Asian premiere of director Ang Lee’s highly anticipated film Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk took place November 2 at Vieshow Cinemas Qsquare in Central Taipei. The theatre was outfitted for the event with customized dual-head Christie Mirage 4KLH RGB laser projection system.
Cineplex Entertainment in partnership with CJ 4DPlex, today announced that Canada’s first 4DX auditorium will open its doors on Friday. Premiering at Cineplex Cinemas Yonge-Dundas and VIP in Toronto, Ontario, Cineplex’s 4DX auditorium features 80 specially-designed motion seats that are further enhanced by environmental effects like wind, mist, bubbles, snow and scent that work in perfect synchronicity with the action on the big screen. Amplifying the experience from watching a movie to almost being in it, the new auditorium will feature the latest Hollywood new releases, beginning this Friday with the premiere of the highly anticipated film Marvel’s Doctor Strange.

Today with 142 movie theaters throughout the country, the company is preparing its biggest project: inaugurate the most modern movie theater in Latin America, in São Paulo.
Palace Cinemas, Australia, has signed a three-year agreement to purchase 70 Christie Digital Cinema projectors in a move to further expand its cinema operations across the country. The projectors will be fitted and serviced by Hoyts Cinema Technology Group, who will be responsible for procurement of equipment (projection, audio solutions and screens), installation, service and support. Palace Cinemas plans to more than double its number of screens over the next 24 months in a rapid expansion of its cinema footprint in Australia
