CinemaCon 2021, originally scheduled for April 26-29 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, has been rescheduled for August 23-26 it was announced today by CinemaCon managing director Mitch Neuhauser. Ongoing international travel restrictions and limits on large gatherings caused by the COVID-19 pandemic prompted the decision.
Toho Cinemas has selected Cinionic laser cinema projection for its new Tachikawa location, which opened in September. The theatre is the first Cinionic laser site for Toho Cinemas, one of Japan’s largest exhibitors with more than 679 screens across 72 locations and will include Barco Series 4 and Barco Smart laser units.
Sharp has acquired 66 percent of NEC Display Solutions shares of stock to complete the previously announced transaction to form a joint venture. The deal became effective November 1. In connection with the completion of the transaction, the company has changed its name to Sharp NEC Display Solutions and has started business operations as a subsidiary of Sharp.

Comscore today announced a multi-year agreement to provide Marcus Theatres with the company’s Comscore Cinema ACE theatre management system. This will enable Marcus Theatres to connect auditoriums, centralize content management and automate the transfer of features, trailers and encryption keys. The agreement also provides Marcus Theatres with Comscore's Enterprise Web circuit management service, allowing Marcus Theatres to streamline operations circuit wide and ensure shows play out as planned.
Following recent decisions requiring the closure of cinemas across a number of European countries in response to spikes in COVID-19, European trade body the International Union of Cinemas in a statement today renewed its call to national governments, the European Commission and the European Parliament to provide further public funding support to the sector to ensure that cinemas are able to survive the ongoing challenges presented by the COVID-19 crisis.

Christie says the virtual event, which runs November 4-5, enables the company to reaffirm its support for partners and customers in the Asia Pacific region, as various exhibitors seek to reopen their theatres after extended periods of closure due to COVID-19. The Kinepolis Group reported on its third quarter financial status last Friday and, despite the ongoing challenges of the global pandemic, CEO Eddy Duquenne remains confident that his company and the cinema business as a whole will survive. “This global crisis is hitting us hard both directly and indirectly,” he said. “On the one hand because of the restrictive measures inside our cinemas and, on the other, because almost all blockbusters have been postponed. I remain positive about the future, as we are seeing that many movie lovers keep coming in spite of everything and feel safe inside the cinema. The fact that the studios are constantly postponing the vast majority of their films until a moment when they can secure their income, proves the importance and value of a cinema release. We are currently in pause mode, but the intermission of this film is lasting longer than foreseen. Fortunately, Kinepolis is in good financial shape.”
