Digital Theatre, CinemaLive Present Ghosts; First Live Dolby Atmos Production

The West End triple Olivier Award winning production of Ghosts – the third title in the West End Theatre Series – was shot in high definition by Digital Theatre and will be distributed in UK theatres on June 26. Distributed by CinemaLive, Ghosts will be the first live event cinema production captured in the Dolby Atmos sound format. This working collaboration will not only enhance the already powerful storytelling on stage and screen, but raises the bar for event cinema.

The Nance to Play in 300 Movie Theatres June 23

Douglas Carter Beane’s 2013 drama The Nance, produced by Lincoln Center Theater and headlined by two-time Tony Award-winning actor Nathan Lane, comes to more than 300 movie theatres in the U.S. and Canada for a limited run beginning June 23 during Gay Pride Week in many cities. Event Cinema Association to Host ECA Lounge at CineEurope 2014

The Event Cinema Association will host an ECA Lounge for members attending CineEurope in June in Barcelona, Spain. The lounge will be located in a large area on Level 1 of the Convention Centre directly off of the foyer. The 18-month-old trade association will be hosting a number of events over the course of the week designed to give value back to its members and continue its commitment to promote and support the event cinema industry.

Restored Stations of the Elevated to Premiere June 27 at BAMcinemafest

On Friday, June 27 BAMcinemafest will present the world premiere of APD/Cinema Conservancy’s new restoration of Stations of the Elevated on the Steinberg Screen at the BAM Harvey Theater. The event begins with a live performance by legendary jazz ensemble the Mingus Dynasty, the original Charles Mingus legacy band. The first band Sue Mingus organized after Charles’ death in 1979, this acclaimed orchestra continues to interpret Charles Mingus’ more than 300 compositions, and will perform as a prelude to Manfred Kirchheimer’s jazz-inflected documentary.

Moody Gardens MG3D Cinema World’s First Museum with 4K 3D 6P Laser Projection

Later this year, Moody Gardens MG3D Cinema will become the world’s first museum-based 4K 3D giant screen 6P laser projection system. The upgrade will replace Moody Gardens’ existing 4K xenon system with a state-of-the-art pair of Christie 4K laser projection heads, a 6P modular laser light farm with fiber optic delivery, Christie 4K 3D high-bitrate server, new giant screen 6P laser glasses, and a new premium white screen. D3D Cinema is systems integrator for the project.

Screenvision Cinema Ad Push Targets Millennials

At its annual upfront event April 2 at New York’s Ziegfeld Theater, cinema advertising company Screenvision outlined its Weekend Daypart concept, calling it “a high impact and essential complement to TV advertising plans.” Additional presentations in Chicago, Los Angeles and Detroit were to take place today. Citing a high awareness of cinema advertising among 18-49 years olds – so-called millennials – one executive said, “When you run an ad on a big screen you know it will be seen.”
