Just prior to the Event Cinema Association hosted its Curious About Scandinavia event in Stockholm October 14th, which they both attended, Digital Cinema Report’s European Correspondent Melissa Cogavin spoke with Unique Digital’s Nordic sales director Eyvind Ljungquist about the company’s newest version of RosettaLive and the idea of bringing broadband technology to live exhibition.

Christie Anchors Festival’s Temporary Cinema

Christie is providing 4K projection to the British Film Institute London Film Festival at a unique temporary cinema that could become a blueprint for others. The Embankment Garden Cinema has also been built in celebration of the LFF’s 60th anniversary. For 11 days, with a 16-meter screen bigger than most London cinemas, the rigid-bodied structure will seat 800 people at London’s Victoria Embankment. It will also screen the LFF’s Official Competition and Strand Gala premieres.

MTI Film recently completed an all-new 4K restoration of director Lewis Milestone’s 1931 film The Front Page. The months-long project was conducted for The Academy Film Archive and The Film Foundation, with MTI Film’s restoration team working under the direction of AFA director Michael Pogorzelski and film preservationist Heather Linville.

Shin Godzilla in 534 Theatres across U.S. and Canada

Funimation Films is screening the Japanese kaiju film Shin Godzilla in 534 theaters across the U.S. and Canada during its limited theatrical engagement October 11-18. Shin Godzilla is the 29th film produced by Toho in the iconic science fiction monster franchise and is co-directed by Hideaki Anno (creator of Evangelion) and Shinji Higuchi (director of Toho's 2015 Attack on Titan live action movies).

New York Film Critics Series Partners with Film Institute

The New York Film Critics Series has partnered with the Film Institute at Montclair State University. The initial program will enable advanced film students at Montclair State University to work in a professional environment and learn how to produce short form content featuring NYFCS directors, writers, producers and actors. Students will create their own production company and perform as producers, directors and crew to create stylish documentary segments featuring stories about the best in the independent movie business today. The participants will gain hands on experience in research, interviewing, writing and editing the original programming.

Sentai Acquires Girls und Panzer der Film

Sentai Filmworks has acquired distribution rights to the Japanese anime film, Girls und Panzer der Film, for North America, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and other territories. Sentai Filmworks says it will release additional information on Girls und Panzer der Film shortly, including distribution, release date, and streaming offerings.

TimePlay Supporting Vista Project

In what could be the first real breakthrough in event cinema, TimePlay will provide its proprietary mobile platform to support The Vista Project student film competition. The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers is a key partner in The Vista Project. TimePlay’s globally patented IP, allows moviegoers to control how stories unfold on the cinema screen in real-time. The deadline for submissions to the contest has been extended to November 15.
