Calling it a new frontier in cinema advertising Airbnb, the world’s leading community-driven hospitality company, is taking its Live There campaign to theaters this weekend. The split-screen experience debuted during 3D showings of summer blockbusters Finding Dory, Independence Day: Resurgence, and The Secret Life of Pets in the UK only. Moviegoers will have a first-of-its-kind, immersive experience that contrasts standardized mass tourism with the unique moments of travel and authentic experiences only possible while traveling on Airbnb.

In a history-making development, as Disney•Pixar’s Finding Dory swims into theaters this week, low-vision and blind fans can enjoy the film alongside family members in theaters, thanks to a breakthrough in independent moviegoing. Smart-syncing audio description, a new feature introduced to in-home audiences four months ago on the Disney Movies Anywhere app, heads to theaters nationwide for the first time with the release of Finding Dory.

Dolby, Lionsgate Bringing Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos Content to the Home

Dolby Laboratories and Lionsgate are partnering to release a slate of Lionsgate new release and catalog titles mastered in Dolby Vision and mixed in Dolby Atmos to offer a premium cinematic experience to the home entertainment market. As a result of this collaboration, consumers with Dolby Vision enabled televisions and Dolby Atmos enabled home theater products will be able to enjoy a broad spectrum of entertainment content from Lionsgate.

Christie Fills Costa Rica’s Biggest Screen

A Christie Duo projection system was recently installed in Nova One, Costa Rica’s biggest film screen. Nova One is the main screen at the Nova Cinemas multiplex located in the newly opened Plaza Real Alajuela shopping mall in San José, the capital of Costa Rica. It is also the country’s first theater to use Dolby Atmos sound and dual 4K projectors.

Christie Emulates Small Theatre at CineEurope

The Christie exhibit at CineEurope 2016, Barcelona, June 20-23, will emulate a small cinema theatre where attendees can see and hear demos of the new Christie CP2208-LP laser phosphor cinema projector and speakers from its Christie Vive Audio LS Series respectively, as well LCD panels and Christie MicroTiles for digital signage in cinema lobbies.

Museum of Flight Screens Space Next

The Museum of Flight, a Smithsonian affiliate, has dedicated its entire June 18 film schedule to premiere Space Next in 4K stereoscopic 3D. The opening was timed to coincide with the NewSpace conference of entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers and policy leaders, held by the Space Frontier Foundation. At two of the premiere screenings, open to the public, Space Next director Luke Ployhar of Afterglow Studios in Minneapolis will introduce the film and show how scenes were created. Ployhar is a seasoned Hollywood filmmaker and effects artist whose credits include Minority Report.

Derek Forbes Named Vista Group COO

Vista Group International Limited has appointed Derek Forbes to the newly created role of chief operating officer. Forbes, currently president, Vista Entertainment Solutions USA, will continue to be based in Los Angeles. Leon Newnham, currently vice president, operations, VES USA will take over from Forbes as president. The announcement was made today by Murray Holdaway, Vista Group chief executive.
