The Walt Disney Studios will release four upcoming titles in CJ 4DPlex’s multi-sensory 4DX format. Following the successful global release of The Lion King and Aladdin in 4DX, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will be released in October, followed by Frozen 2 and Ford v Ferrari in November and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in December.
Sony Pictures will release more films for 2019-2020 in MediaMation’s immersive cinema MX4D format. The format was programmed for nine Sony Pictures releases this calendar year, starting with Escape Room, through the blockbuster, Spider-Man: Far From Home.

European cinema services provider CinemaNext has installed its first Illucity Corner virtual reality system for cinema exhibitors at Belgium’s Kinepolis Liège cinema. The opening comes one year after the launch of the Illucity adventure park in Paris, the first VR location based entertainment center of its kind.
Later this year National Amusements’ Showcase Cinema de Lux Legacy Place will become the exhibitor’s first all Barco laser multiplex in the United States. Located in Boston, Massachusetts, the theatre will be the Northeast’s first theatre to feature Showcase XPlus – CGS Enlightened, the cinemas’ enhanced giant screen offering with immersive sound, crystal clear laser projection and reserved seating.
This week DTS released its DTS:X Immersive Audio Bitstream software development kit to its cinema partners. The company believes the move strengthens its position as the motion picture industry creates the interoperable IAB content and device ecosystem needed to provide a true immersive sound experience in theatres.
A district court in Düsseldorf, Germany ruled in favor of stereoscopic 3D company RealD, finding infringement of three of its patents by Volfoni SmartCrystal Diamond triple-beam systems. RealD made the announcement today.
