Marcus Announces Movie STAR Approach

Marcus Theatres today announced its plan to begin re-opening theatres, which will begin June 19. As part of the initial reopening experience, Marcus Theatres is introducing its Movie STAR approach, which incorporates new health and safety measures and is in alignment with Centers for Disease Control guidelines. Everyone can be a Movie STAR and play a role in creating a safe environment with social distancing (S); Thorough cleaning (T); App and website ordering of tickets, food and concessions for no-to-low contact interactions (A); and respecting each other by following these new protocols (R). Policies and guidelines will continue to evolve with time and will be assessed and updated on an ongoing basis.

Lighting the Way Out of COVID-19

Sami Haddad is the founder and president of Digital Light Sources and has more than thirty years experience in specialty lighting in various industries including cinema, entertainment and science. DLS was established roughly one year ago as a niche provider of lighting, projection, audio and video products and disinfection services to cinema and entertainment markets. When it became obvious that movie theatres were going to be in need of highly-specialized cleaning services when they reopen in the wake of the COVD-19 pandemic, his company formed an exclusive and strategic partnership with American Ultraviolet, a company that uses ultraviolet C lighting to disinfect businesses of all kinds. DGA Theatre Gets Total Renovation

The Directors Guild of America recently completed a total renovation of its flagship motion picture exhibition space at the prestigious DGA Theatre in Los Angeles. Guided by a guild committee of six leading filmmakers, the renewal project has moved the 600-seat theatre to the forefront of cinema technology with the installation of custom-built Dolby Vision laser projection and a Dolby Atmos immersive sound system encompassing more than 70 Meyer Sound cinema loudspeakers.

SMPTE Hollywood Launches Ask an Expert Webinar Series

The Hollywood Section of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers has launched a new webinar series aimed at young people interested in behind-the-scenes careers in the entertainment industry. Titled Ask a Hollywood Expert, the series features successful, young professionals, across a range of technical disciplines including post production, visual effects and editorial, talking about how they got their start and what they learned as they advanced in their careers.
