Karo Installs Barco Laser in Moscow Cinema

Karo, one of Russia’s largest cinema chains, has a selected Barco Flagship Laser Projector from Cinionic, the Barco, CGS, and ALPD cinema joint venture, for its premiere hall at Moscow’s historic Karo 11 October cinema. Home to the Moscow International Film Festival and the preferred location for major movie premieres in Russia, the distinguished 1,500 seat hall is widely regarded as Russia’s leading movie premiere and festival site.

AMC Statement Regarding Opening of NYC Cinemas

In response to the announcement that movie theatres can reopen in New York City, Adam Aron, CEO and president of AMC Entertainment issued the following statement: "Governor Cuomo's announcement that movie theatres can reopen in New York City in the first week of March is another important step towards restoring the health of the movie theatre industry and of our Company. We are excited to announce that AMC, the largest movie theatre exhibitor in New York City, will reopen all 13 of our theatres in New York City beginning March 5.

Arc Cinema to Open at Ayr’s Kyle Centre

The Arc Cinema has signed a long-term lease with developer and investor Squarestone Asset Management to become the leisure anchor at Ayr’s Kyle Centre. Coupled with South Ayrshire Council’s planned Leisure Centre on the Arran Mall site, which is also controlled by Squarestone Asset Management. This will see a key area in the heart of the town center repurposed into a vibrant cultural and leisure destination.

A new report details the median budget of a European theatrical fiction film released in 2018 and those films most important financing sources. The report is based on the actual budget analysis of 568 European live-action fiction films released in 2018. Researchers say this is probably the largest ongoing pan-European data sample available to date on the financing of European fiction films.

National CineMedia and Unique X are launching Advertising Accord, an upgraded version of the cinema advertising management software system. The companies have worked together over the past two years to jointly develop and tailor Advertising Accord for the specific needs of the U.S. market. The new version will now manage all inventory for NCM’s Noovie pre-show and movie theatre lobby products across NCM’s network of 57 leading national and regional theater circuits including AMC, Cinemark, and Regal Entertainment Group.

Detective Chinatown 3 Sets Box Office Record

In a clear sign that audiences will return to theatres once they’re open and have a good movie to present, the Global Cinema Federation today celebrated the record opening weekend in China of Detective Chinatown 3. The title set a single market record for opening day of $163 million and opening weekend $397 million. This comes one year after China’s 70,000 screens were completely shuttered for 2020’s Lunar New Year celebrations.

New Drive-In Theatre Opens in Downtown Miami

Nite Owl Theatre has created a laser projection drive-in cinema experience in the heart of Miami, Florida. Featuring a 53-foot screen, the Knight Foundation-backed theatre can accommodate between 65-70 cars per screening. This enables Miami area movie lovers to reconnect with the big screen from the safety of their car and ensures theater guests will enjoy enhanced visual experiences, with brighter higher quality images, while maintaining social distance in the new venue.
