When cinematographer Thomas Rist, geared up to shoot an in-store promotional video for shoe maker London Kate’s Get High on Heels campaign, he used the opportunity to try out the new Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon FF-Prime lenses. The dynamic music video-style promo featured renowned choreographer Ferly Prado performing dance moves on a downtown L.A. rooftop and in the L.A. River Basin.

Kicking off the 2014 season of Canada’s Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing, Toronto’s Woodbine Racetrack hosted The Queen’s Plate Stakes last month. The event is the longest continuously run stakes race in North America, and this year marked its 155th anniversary. To ensure not a moment of horseracing action was missed, the production of the event included use of For-A’s FT-One 4K variable frame rate camera, used in conjunction with For-A’s ZE-One 4K extraction system.

Drug Trafficking’s Human Toll

Equatorial heat and humidity, sporadic electrical service, and a modest budget were just a few of the challenges that director Josef Wladyka and writer/DP Alan Blanco faced while filming their feature Manos Sucias (Dirty Hands) among the impoverished fishing villages of Colombia’s Pacific coast. Filmed completely on location, Manos Sucias is a drama depicting the perils of two fishermen coerced into towing an underwater narco-torpedo up the Pacific coast of Colombia. They also filmed in the jungle and aboard small boats in rough seas, all while needing to keep a low profile in a dangerous region

Chuck Schultz Takes on Alligators in the Wild

Director of Photography Charles “Chuck” Schultz’ last encounter with wildlife was with a congregation of alligators in one of their more famous stomping grounds, the Myakka River State Park in Sarasota, Florida. Armed with his new AJ-PX270 P2 HD handheld, Schultz captured extensive video that later aired on CBS Sunday Morning’s signature nature segment.

The $4 million Wonders of the Arctic 3D natural world epic marks Science North's fifth IMAX production in conjunction with Lickley and Chicago’s Giant Screen Films. The 42-minute film, which focuses on the effects of climate change to the Arctic environment and the impact on humans and animals, such as the resilient Inuit peoples and Polar bears that reside there, has been distributed in more than 100 theatres around the world.

Director Josh Greenbaum’s acclaimed feature documentary The Short Game is now available on Netflix and DVD. The movies profiles eight talented and engaging young competitors at The World Championships of Junior Golf, in Pinehurst, North Carolina, and at their homes in various countries around the world (South Africa, the Philippines, France, China, the United Kingdom and the United States). Filming with the help of 18 Cinema EOS C300 cameras and a variety of lenses from Canon. The Short Game included everything from traditional documentary-style visits to the homes of the eight young golfers for character-based footage, to extensive tournament coverage.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past Relied on Codex

Codex recording and workflow technology was used at the heart of the production to post pipeline on 20th Century Fox’s latest superhero movie X-Men: Days Of Future Past. A combination of Codex Onboard Recorders, in-camera XR recording, and Vault systems, enabled the filmmakers to deploy a variety of Arri Alexa cameras, shooting both native 3D and 2D using ArriRaw, and to maximize image quality on-set and during post-production.
