As one of the preeminent feature film re-recording mixers working today, two-time British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award nominee Jaime Baksht has spent almost three decades behind the re-recording console, credited for mixing I Am No Longer Here (2020, Ariel Award Best Sound), Pan’s Labyrinth (2006, BAFTA Nominee, Goya Winner Best Sound), and Darius Marder’s directorial debut Sound of Metal (2021, BAFTA, CAS, AMPS Sound Nominee). Most recently, he received an Oscar nomination for Best Sound for his work on Sound of Metal. In film work, he says, every emotion sounds different.

ASC Announces 2021 Nominees

The American Society of Cinematographers has announced its nominees for feature film, documentary and television cinematography, representing the organization’s picks for the most compelling visual filmmaking over the past 14 months. Winners will be named during the 35th ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards on April 18. The virtual ceremony will be live streamed via American Society of Cinematographers Facebook page at 12:30 pm PDT from the historic ASC Clubhouse in Hollywood.

MPSE to Honor Dennis Drummond with Career Achievement Award

The Motion Picture Sound Editors today announced that it will honor supervising sound editor Dennis Drummond with its 2021 MPSE Career Achievement Award. Drummond’s long list of credits includes The Intern, The Help, It’s Complicated and The Pursuit of Happyness. He has developed close relationships with several top directors including Nancy Meyers, James L. Brooks and Penny Marshall. He will receive the Career Achievement Award at the 68th Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards, which will be held as an international virtual ceremony on April 16th.

Sofia Coppola to Receive ASC Board of Governors Award

The American Society of Cinematographers will present writer-producer-director Sofia Coppola with the organization’s Board of Governors Award during the 35th Annual ASC Awards on April 18, which will be live streamed from the ASC Clubhouse in Hollywood. The Society bestows the ASC Board of Governors Award to filmmakers for their significant and indelible contributions to cinema through their body of work.

George Miller to Receive MPSE Filmmaker of the Year Award

Miller is being honored for a career noteworthy for its incredibly broad scope and consistent excellence. The Australian writer, director and producer is responsible for some of the most successful and beloved films of recent decades including Mad Max, Mad Max 2: Road Warrior, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and Mad Max: Fury Road.

DPA Microphones Executives to Receive Technical Achievement Oscars
