In October 1948, Jesse Brown became the first African American to complete the U.S. Navy’s flight training program and received his Naval Aviator Badge. The feature Devotion, directed by J.D. Dillard and based on the bestselling book by Adam Makos, recounts the true story of Brown’s distinguished service, focusing on the year 1950, at the onset of the Korean War, when he and his fellow pilots in Fighter Squadron 32 deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Leyte, first to the Mediterranean Sea and then to the East Sea, off the coast of North Korea.

SMPTE Hollywood to Discuss the State of Drone Technology

The Hollywood Section of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers will offer a revealing glimpse into the state of drone technology and artistry at its October virtual meeting. A panel of experts in the use of drones in film and television production will discuss the latest advances and future innovations in airborne camera systems. Free and open to all, the virtual event will take place on October 7 at 6:00 p.m. PDT on Zoom.

Aerigon Used on Key Spectre Scene

Jeremy Braben says the shot could only have been done with Aerigon.Intuitive Aerial’s Aerigon UAV was used on a key action scene in Spectre, the latest addition to the James Bond movie franchise. Helicopter Film Services flew its Aerigon just above the rooftops near Trafalgar Square in London as Bond, played by Daniel Craig, races up a fire escape.

The Aerigon carried a 6K Red Dragon and Zeiss Master Prime lens.

Filmmaker Ty Evans used Aerigon to capture spectacular shots for the skateboarding feature film We Are Blood. Directed by Evans and produced by Brain Farm and Mountain Dew Green Label Films, We Are Blood profiles professional skateboarder Paul Rodriquez and his wide circle of skateboarding comrades. Filmed on locations around the globe, the movie relied on dynamic action shots, captured at different angles and perspectives that bring the audience into the skateboarding experience.

BBC’s Natural World Presents Return of the Giant Killers

The BBC Natural World’s The Return of the Giant Killers – Africa’s Lion Kings offers ground breaking 4K footage of lions as they track their buffalo prey in the wild. This incredible audience experience of nature was produced by the Natural History Film Unit, based in Botswana, which relied on the Aerigon UAV to capture the aerial images of predators and prey.

Aerigon Provides Aerial Footage for Wildest Dreams

The Aerigon aerial remote camera platform, outfitted with a Red Dragon camera, was used by the Natural History Film Unit to capture some of the sweeping overhead images for the latest Taylor Swift video, Wildest Dreams. Staged as a period piece film shoot on the African Savannah, the richly produced music video incorporates stunning aerial scenes of wildlife, thanks in part to the stability and lift capacity of Aerigon, which allows filmmakers to use the cameras and lenses they need for their shots, including full in-flight camera controls.
