More2Screen has been appointed as the international distributor for the British Museum’s second big screen event, Vikings from the British Museum, a recorded release available to cinemas worldwide (except the UK and Ireland) beginning June 6.
This special British Museum cinema event offers an exclusive private view of the BP exhibition Vikings: life and legend and is being filmed live in London on April 24. Introduced by British MuseumdDirector Neil MacGregor and presented by the celebrated broadcasting historians Michael Wood and Bettany Hughes, the exhibition will be brought to life by curator Gareth Williams, alongside experts on Viking ships and swords, burial and beliefs, language and legacy. With demonstrations, stunning close-up photography of the Viking objects in the exhibition and a torch-lit burial staged in the grounds of the museum, Vikings from the British Museum will be a reminder of how the Vikings have shaped modern lives across four continents.
Christine Costello, managing director, More2Screen said, "Following on from the outstanding worldwide success of Pompeii from the British Museum, we are delighted to be working with the British Museum team once again on the eagerly anticipated follow-on event, Vikings from the British Museum. Cultural events at the cinema are being welcomed with open arms by audiences across the globe and the British Museum is leading the way in showing how an exhibition – in theory fixed by time and place – can be transformed into a cinematic experience accessible to thousands of people around the world.”
Patricia Wheatley, head of broadcasting at the British Museum said, “More2Screen demonstrated tremendous expertise and professionalism in their international distribution of our first cinema event, Pompeii from the British Museum, which has reached more than 100,000 admissions worldwide across 51 territories to date. We’re looking forward to building on this achievement with our hugely exciting second cinema event, Vikings from the British Museum.”
