OGC, Khronos Group Work to Improve Geospatial and 3D Interoperability

The Open Geospatial Consortium and the Khronos Group are joining forces to advance open geospatial standards related to the fields of augmented and virtual reality, distributed simulation, and 3D content services. As part of the liaison, and through collaborative participation in OGC and Khronos initiatives, the two organizations will work jointly to develop use cases and requirements for open geospatial standards concerning 3D, virtual and augmented reality APIs, and related graphical representations.

Media Links Shimizu to Present Paper at SMPTE 2018

Media Links research and development manager Dr. Takeshi Shimizu will present a paper at the SMPTE 2018 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition in Los Angeles at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites from October 22-25. Shimizu will present: Non-blocking Multicast Networks for Transporting Stream Media, which proposes a new approach for building a three-stage Clos Network with non-blocking multicast capabilities, thereby reducing overall switch count and associated costs. His presentation is part of the Advances in IP session, which will examine how to improve upon and move beyond the status quo in professional media networking.

CGR Cinemas has chosen Christie as its exclusive laser projection partner, as it moves to convert all 700 of its theatres to RGB pure laser technology. In a landmark agreement that sees CGR becoming the largest investor in Christie RealLaser systems in the world today, 200 CGR Classic auditoriums will be redeveloped for Christie RealLaser over the next two years.

Dolby Atmos momentum continues to grow globally with screens installed in more than 90 countries. Mangurama, Bobb Films to Release Weed the People in U.S. and Canada

Mangurama and Bobb Films have acquired the U.S. and Canadian theatrical distribution rights for director Abby Epstein (Until The Violence Stops, The Business of Being Born) and executive producer Ricki Lake’s (The Business of Being Born, Breastmilk, The Mama Sherpas) Weed the People. The film premiered at the 2018 SXSW Festival, was the Audience Award Winner at The Nashville Film Festival and will have a West Coast premiere at the Mill Valley Film Festival.

Vox Cinemas has selected Volfoni for their 3D hardware systems for the first multiplex at Riyadh Park in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Vox Cinemas was awarded one of the first licenses to operate cinemas in Saudi Arabia and their multiplex at Riyadh Park is the first of its kind in the kingdom.
