Black Christmas Re-Imagines ‘70s Horror Classic

As Hawthorne College winds down for the Christmas holidays, a black-masked stalker begins killing sorority sisters one by one. Produced by Jason Blum (Halloween, Get Out) for Blumhouse Productions, Black Christmas is a re-imagining of the 1974 cult classic for the 21st century audience. The horror film was directed and co-written by Sophia Takal (Always Shine). Although Takal was a fan of the original film, she wanted to bring attention to contemporary women’s rights issues, in particular the Me-Too movement

Cineworld to Acquire Cineplex

Cineplex, Canada, today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by the Cineworld Group. With more than 11,200 screens around the globe, the proposed transaction will create one of the world’s largest cinema companies, providing Cineplex with scale and all the benefits associated with a global enterprise, the company said.

Nugen Audio Awarded Trademark in China

Nugen Audio today announced that its brand has earned an official trademark in China, following a several months-long approvals process. The trademark was fully authorized by the China Trademark Office on October 7. Nugen registered for the trademark on recommendation from its Chinese distributor, Music Marketing, as a means of protecting the brand name and company IP within the Chinese market. This trademark gives the company total control over its brand for the next ten years.

Cineplex Adds New 4DX, ScreenX Installations

Cineplex today announced that it had added new immersive theatre formats 4DX and ScreenX in locations across Canada. The multi-sensory 4DX experience is now open at three new locations: Cineplex Cinemas Winston Churchill in Oakville, Ontario; Cineplex Cinemas Hamilton Mountain in Stoney Creek, Ontario; and Scotiabank Theatre Edmonton in Edmonton, Alberta.
