For the 14th year, The Hollywood Professional Association will honor the companies and individuals who draw upon technical and creative ingenuity to develop breakthrough technologies with the HPA Engineering Excellence Award. The call for entries for the Engineering Excellence submissions will close on May 24.
For fans that want to watch every Marvel movie in one sitting, Showcase Cinemas in Revere, Massachusetts has it covered. As the exclusive New England location to host the 22-movie Marvel marathon beginning Tuesday, April 23 and concluding Thursday April 25, Showcase Cinema de Lux Revere is doing its best to make the two-day sacrifice a little easier for Marvel fans. Participants will have access to shower stations to clean up, yoga breaks to stretch and relax in between movies. Portable cell phone charging lockers will also be available. In addition, food breaks are scheduled and concessions will be discounted by twenty-two percent.

Faced with rising costs and increasing competition from television, exhibitors of that sad era cut their buildings into multi-screen complexes to increase ticket sales and maximize profits on concessions. Fathom Events has entered into a multi-year master distribution agreement with global independent film distributor 1091, formerly known as The Orchard. Under the agreement, 1091 and Fathom will work to curate and distribute compelling content, including sports and action/adventure films, to cinemas across the United States.

SFC Yonghua Cinema City has become the second facility in China to open a Samsung Onyx theatre. Local technology provider Ace Film & TV installed JBL Sculpted Surround cinema speakers and Crown networked power amplifiers. SFC Yonghua Cinema City is the first cinema in China to feature intelligent networked audio solutions across the entire facility.
GDC Technology has introduced the SR-5400 and the SR-6400 series media servers with Flexible Architecture Stable Technology (FAST) for 4K high frame rate movies and 4K 3D. The SR-5400 is compatible with new DLP Cinema projectors that are capable of playing DCP content in 4K 3D and 4K@60fps.
