Amy Poehler will receive this year’s CinemaCon Vanguard Award, Mitch Neuhauser, managing director of CinemaCon, announced today. CinemaCon, the official convention of the National Association of Theatre Owners, will be held April 8-11 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

The Society of Camera Operators has announced the recipients of Camera Operator of the Year in Film and Television. Juanjo Sánchez, SOC and Manuel Branáa took home the title of Camera Operator of the Year in Film for their work on Society of the Snow.
Ten years after the initial rollout of laser cinema projectors, the technology and the people who developed it are being honored with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Scientific and Technical Awards. Sixteen people from seven companies will be recognized on February 23. I am humbled to be recognized for my pioneering utilization of semiconductor lasers for theatrical laser projection systems. Rising Sun Pictures’ visual effects supervisor Julian Hutchens and visual effects producers Ian Cope, Andrew Whitehurst, Kathy Siegel and Alistair Williams, won the 2024 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Award for Best Visual Effects or Animation for their work on Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

The American Cinema Editors, honorary society of motion picture editors, which was founded in 1950, will honor filmmakers John Waters with its Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award. The statue recognizes “an artist who exemplifies distinguished achievement in the art and business of film.”
