The Society of Camera Operators annual Camera Operator of the Year Awards & Creative Vision Celebration is going virtual and will be held on April 11 from 5:00 to 6:30 pm PST. There the community will come together to celebrate the industry’s triumphs, masterful storytelling, and stand out creativity. Nominees for the Camera Operator of the Year Film & Television categories will be awarded live.

Pay-It-Forward Contest Winners Named

DPA Microphone and Rycote have announced the winners of the Pay-It-Forward Film Contest Giveaway. The brands joined forces to support the film industry during these unprecedented times by offering first-time and indie filmmakers the opportunity to win a customized DPA/Rycote filming kit. The winners of the contest are Jacob Deming of the United States, Lijie Cheng of Singapore and Sergey Martynyuk of Austria. The winners will receive three DPA mics – the brand new 4097 Micro Shotgun, 4017 Shotgun and 6060 Core Subminiature – along with an array of Rycote accessories.

Göteborg Film Festival Names Writing Nominees

For the fifth consecutive year, the award for outstanding writing of a Nordic drama series, funded by Nordisk Film & TV Fond, will be handed out during TV Drama Vision, Göteborg Film Festival’s conference event and series market. Five drama series from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden have been nominated for the prize, which will be awarded to the main writer.

CTC Announces 2020 Award Winners

The trade group Cinema Technology Community announced the recipients of its 2020 awards at its special online event, One Community Day. More than 400 industry professionals registered for the five-hour charity focused event, which was held November 26 and hosted by film critic, author and broadcaster Mark Kermode and CTC’s Dave Norris.

Rising Sun Pictures Wins VFX Award for The Eight Hundred

Rising Sun Pictures has won the 2020 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Award for Best Visual Effects or Animation for its work on the Chinese World War II epic The Eight Hundred. The Adelaide-based studio helped to recreate the 1937 Battle of Shanghai, where a small Chinese army mounted a determined defense against a larger invading army. Directed by Guan Hu and produced by Haining Seventh Image Movie & Media Co Ltd, The Eight Hundred is among the most successful Chinese movies ever made, and the highest grossing film globally for 2020, having earned $446 million (RMB 3.02 billion) in total box office.

One World: Together at Home to Receive HPA Judges Award

The Hollywood Professional Association Awards Committee has announced that its prestigious Judges Award for Creativity and Innovation will honor One World: Together at Home, a globally televised and streamed special produced remotely, last April by international advocacy organization Global Citizen and the World Health Organization in support of the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, powered by the UN Foundation.
