Göteborg Film Festival Names Writing Nominees

For the fifth consecutive year, the award for outstanding writing of a Nordic drama series, funded by Nordisk Film & TV Fond, will be handed out during TV Drama Vision, Göteborg Film Festival’s conference event and series market. Five drama series from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden have been nominated for the prize, which will be awarded to the main writer.

The Dreams of Lost Souls

Fugitive Dreams, based on the play by Caridad Svich, is an allegorical road movie touching on themes of homelessness, mental health and addiction, as two lost souls embark across a dreamscape America. Their darkly strange journey confronts them with their traumatic pasts, and bonds them in compassion and love. For cinematographer Peter Simonite, ASC, CSC lensing the film meant needing a vintage look — but a look that was also consistent between lenses.

Scales Now in Cinemas Across Saudi Arabia

After achieving critical acclaim during an award-winning tour of global film festivals, Image Nation Abu Dhabi’s feature film Scales (Sayidat Al Bahr) will be screening in cinemas in Saudi Arabia this week, after it was picked up by Saudi distributor Cinewaves Films. Viewers will be able to experience the debut film from Saudi Arabian writer-director Shahad Ameen in cinemas across Riyadh, Jeddah, Tabuk, Jizan and the Eastern Province in its first theatrical release.

Abramorama Releasing Soros Documentary in U.S. November 18

Abramorama has acquired U.S. distribution rights for Jesse Dylan’s feature length documentary film Soros, from Vital Pictures. Abramorama is orchestrating a nationwide live streaming premiere with a post-screening conversation with Dylan and additional guests on November 18 on the film’s website – www.sorosfilm.com. Abramorama will release the film as a nationwide Watch Now @ Home offering starting November 20. The film had its U.S. premiere at the Telluride Film Festival.

What Breaks the Ice to Premiere at Woodstock Film Festival

Goldcrest Films/Saboteur Media’s coming-of-age thriller What Breaks the Ice will make its premiere at a special drive-in theater screening, October 3, at the 21st annual Woodstock Film Festival in New York. The screening will be held at the Overlook Drive-In Theatre in Poughkeepsie on a double-bill with Ammonite, Francis Lee’s new film starring Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan.

Middle Eastern Film Cooperation Agreement Announced

The Abu Dhabi Film Commission, the Israel Film Fund and the Jerusalem Sam Spiegel Film &Television School have reached an overarching agreement centered on goodwill and bilateral cooperation in the fields of film and television. Under the new agreement, the film commissions will create an intercultural cooperation, creating content with the goal of promoting tolerance, education and developing a deeper cultural understanding between the Emirati and Israeli people.

Christie Celebrates 20th Year as TIFF Official Digital Projection Partner

Christie is celebrating its 20th year as the Official Digital Projection Partner of the Toronto International Film Festival, which runs through September 19. The 45th annual festival will screen 50 new films across venues adapted to the global pandemic, including a drive-in theater, an open-air cinema, and indoor venues tailored for public safety.
