First Imax-Only Cinema Opens in India

PVR Inox, India’s biggest theatre chain, has launched the only standalone Imax property in the country. The company has installed Imax Laser Projection in Delhi’s Priya Cinema, located at Basant Lok Complex, Vasant Vihar. While other Imax theatres in the country house regular theatre formats and projections alongside, this marks the first time an entire cinema is dedicated to Imax screenings.

Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas Inglewood Imax Opening July 21

On July 21, Cinépolis will unveil the Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas Inglewood Imax at Hollywood Park, officially opening the sports and entertainment destination's retail space. The first movie theatre to call Inglewood home in nearly 30 years, the 12-screen, 1,236-seat, 55,137-square-foot luxury concept is the first tenant to open and welcome guests at Hollywood Park, which is being built by Los Angeles Rams owner/chairman E. Stanley Kroenke and is the largest urban mixed-use mega development under construction in the Western United States.

Imax Moves to Takeover Imax China

Imax Corporation has filed a proposal to acquire the outstanding 96.3 million shares in Imax China, a Hong Kong-listed subsidiary established by Imax Corporation to oversee its business in Greater China. The deal is worth roughly $124 million. The offer represents an approximate 49 percent premium to the 30-trading day average closing price. Upon approval of the offer, Imax Corporation will own 100 percent of Imax China.

Aronofsky Creating Documentary for Sphere

Academy Award-nominee Darren Aronofsky is currently directing the feature-length documentary film Postcard from Earth, a first-of-its-kind production set to debut at Sphere in Las Vegas this October. Aronofsky is utilizing the Big Sky camera system to capture content for the immersive production, which will fully-maximize Sphere’s 22nd century technologies – including the world’s highest resolution LED screen, the world’s most advanced concert audio system, and atmospheric elements such as wind and scent – to transport audiences to places both real and imagined.
