Periscope Upgrades Hollywood Facility

When Chicago-based Periscope Post & Audio launched its Hollywood facility last year, it was targeting Southern California’s boom in film and television production. But the building that houses Periscope, previously occupied by another full service post house, needed a serious upgrade. Enter sound studio specialist Kaiser Comm Construction. Today the 22,000-square-foot facility offers complete sound and picture finishing resources tailored to meet today’s highest standards, especially among streaming services like Netflix and Amazon, which often require shows delivered in high dynamic range with immersive Dolby Atmos soundtracks.

This presented the production of its first scripted show, Dummy, with a unique set of creative and workflow issues. Elite Media Adds Sony 4K HDR Mastering Monitors

Santa Clarita, California post-production facility Elite Media Technologies has added two Sony BVM-HX310 31-inch 4K high dynamic range master monitors to complement several BVM-X300, 30-inch 4K/HDR OLED reference monitors. The new HX310s work in conjunction with the X300s in critical monitoring situations, mastering and quality control environments and advance Elite’s HDR capabilities by offering support for wider color gamuts and providing up to 1,000 nits of full-screen brightness with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. In addition, the HX310s can be color-matched to the incumbent X300 monitors for accurate color reproduction throughout the facility.

Gemini Man Stretches Technology Boundaries

Three-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ang Lee’s much anticipated new film, Paramount Pictures’ Gemini Man, premieres October 6 at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles. As has been the case with Lee’s most recent work, the film stretches technological boundaries by being produced in 4K resolution, stereoscopic 3D, and shot at 120 frames per second. The premiere will use Cinity, the new HFR cinema projection system developed by Christie for Huaxia Film Distribution. Christie’s strategic partnership with Huaxia Film Distribution and GDC Technology Limited resulted in the development of the Cinity Cinema System based on two Christie CP4450-RGB HFR projectors.

Alamo Drafthouse Installs Sony 4K Laser Projectors in Newest Theatre

Alamo Drafthouse’s newest location – its 39th – in Westminster, Colorado continues the cinema-eatery’s tradition of implementing Sony’s 4K laser digital cinema projection technology. The nine-screen, all-laser complex features Sony’s SRX-R815P and 815DS 4K laser projectors in auditoriums ranging in size from 78 Seats to 245 Seats. The projectors deliver a high contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and are high dynamic range and high frame rate capable.
