Alamo Uses Humor to Make Serious Point

Alamo Drafthouse opens its 25th, and first New York, location today and to introduce New York City audiences to its strict no talking, no texting policy the company has enlisted the help of some of New York’s funniest people to star in a new series of three in-theater public service announcements exclusively for Alamo Downtown Brooklyn.

With the opening of Alamo Drafthouse Downtown Brooklyn October 28, also comes the opening of Brooklyn’s newest, most curious full service bar: House of Wax. While the stand-alone bar is housed in the Alamo Drafthouse cinema, and will be without a doubt the best spot for movie pre-gaming and post-mortems, House of Wax is a destination and experience all its own. Combining mixology, music and the macabre, House of Wax takes its name from two sources of inspiration close to the Alamo Drafthouse’s heart: Vincent Price’s 1950s 3D thriller and the brand’s vinyl record labels, Mondo and Death Waltz Records.

Art House Fans Also Like Mainstream Movies, Study Says

One million Australians 14 and older see art house or foreign language movies at the cinema—but they still go to mainstream movies too, Roy Morgan Research cinema attendance data shows. More than half (58 percent) of art house-foreign film-goers saw just one such film in an average three month period last year, while 30 percent saw two or three, and the remaining twelve percent saw four or more. Overall, at an average of two such films each per quarter, it adds up to a total of eight art house/foreign films over the year.
