Dolby GFS Winning Filmmaker’s Named

Dolby Laboratories and the award-winning nonprofit Ghetto Film School today announced the winners of the Dolby Institute x Ghetto Film School Filmmaker Challenge: Finish the Script 2021. The competition challenged GFS alumni ages 18-35 to create an original short film proposal in response to a creative prompt from award-winning filmmaker Carlos López Estrada (Blindspotting, Raya and the Last Dragon). This year’s winners include filmmakers representing four different projects Alejandra Araujo, Eleanor Cho, Christian Osagiede, and Antonio Salume and Amy B. Tiong.

As a junior look development artist at Rising Sun Pictures, Bridget Dinning is part of a team responsible for the aesthetic aspects of visual effects. Her job requires highly developed technical skills and a discerning artistic eye to ensure that 3D characters, objects, environments, and other assets are consistent in terms of color, lighting, and style.

Banh Ultimatum Vying for AICP Award

Currently short-listed for an Association of Independent Commercial Producers Post Award, Banh Ultimatum is a campy, two-minute spot disguised as a trailer for a 1980s vintage, action movie. The film was conceived and directed by freelance creative Jim Heekin and promotes Boulder, Colorado restaurant Daikon, which specializes in Vietnamese-style sandwiches. The editorial, visual effects, sound design and post-production services were completed at the post house 11 Dollar Bill.

Music Men

Poser, the debut film of directing partners Ori Segev and Noah Dixon, is a music-driven psychodrama about obsession, and the need to fit in and be a part of something. The film was selected to compete in the Tribeca Film Festival’s 2021 US Narrative Competition and made its world premiere there June 10th. The creative team of Adam Robl and Shawn Sutta composed the film’s score.

NYWIFT Plans Weekend of Screenings and Celebration

New York Women in Film & Television culminates its month-long recognition of Women’s History with a weekend of screenings celebrating female creators in film, television, and media. NYWIFT will screen IFC Films’ critically acclaimed Farewell Amor March 26-27 as part of its annual Support Women Artists Now Day celebration in partnership with SAG-AFTRA, FF2 Media, Women in the Arts & Media Coalition, HerFlix, In Creative Company, The Gotham, African American Women in Cinema, and Women Make Movies, followed by a talkback with filmmaker Ekwa Msangi on Saturday, March 27 at 12 p.m. EDT. Then the 41st Annual NYWIFT Muse Awards celebrating women of vision and achievement will have its educational broadcast on CUNY TV on Sunday, March 28 at 8 p.m. EdT.

Space Games Equal Space Challenge Opens

The Entertainment Industry Professionals Mentoring Alliance is partnering with the Space Games Federation, one of its member organizations, to promote the International Space Station for the Nobel Peace Prize. The EIPMA and SGF have created the Space Games Equal Space Challenge in which aspiring entertainment industry professionals can compete to create a public service announcement to foster public support for awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to the ISS.
