Fandango announced today it has signed multi-year deals with leading international exhibitors Cinemark, Cinepolis (in Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Chile and Colombia), National Amusements (Showcase Cinemas, UCI) and Cinemex, adding more than 5,000 new screens in more than 15 Latin American countries. The new deals will bring Fandango’s global screen count to more than 45,000 worldwide.
A new study conducted as part of a School of Communication research course at Emerson College has found that film critics' moderate influence on movies can have a significant impact on box office revenue. While an earlier Emerson study found that film critics have a moderate influence on movie outcomes for wide releases, the revenue difference between movies with negative and positive reviews on opening weekend was an average of $23 million. The study also found a revenue difference of $83 million for total domestic gross revenue.
CGR Cinemas has chosen Christie as its exclusive laser projection partner, as it moves to convert all 700 of its theatres to RGB pure laser technology. Vivendi’s CanalOlympia has signed an agreement to roll-out Vista Cinema’s Veezi cinema management system across all their cinema venues. Currently operating nine venues across seven countries, CanalOlympia is the leading network of cinema and live performance venues in Africa. Shin Kong Cinemas, a member of the Shin Kong Group, one of Taiwan’s leading financial, retail, and entertainment groups has selected Arts Alliance Media’s Screenwriter Theatre Management System to provide automated scheduling and content management for every screen in SKC’s estate across Taiwan. The deal marks AAM’s first entry into the Taiwan market.
Cineplex and CJ 4DPlex today announced a new agreement that will bring the 4DX experience to as many as 13 additional Cineplex locations across Canada over the coming years. The companies opened Canada’s first 4D auditorium at Cineplex Cinemas Yonge-Dundas and VIP in the heart of downtown Toronto, Ontario, in 2016, and its popularity with guests has prompted this new partnership and investment.
IMAX Corporation and Wanying Cinema Line, a subsidiary of China Resources Land, one of China's largest state-owned commercial developers, today announced an agreement for 14 new IMAX theatres. The theatres will feature IMAX with Laser and are expected to open between 2018 and 2021. This agreement brings the total number of contracted IMAX theatres in Greater China to more than 900.
