Barco Supports Sundance New Frontier

Barco, the official projection provider for the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, brings to life several key virtual reality and art installations at the New Frontier exhibition with its large venue projectors and presentation switchers. The festival also uses Barco digital cinema projectors in all 23 of its movie theater venues for official screenings.

Kodak Names Super 8 Winners

Kodak announced the Grand Prize winners of the Kodak Super 8 Filmmaking Challenge following last night’s screening of works from the 15 semi-finalists’ films at the Slamdance Film Festival. Kodak launched the Super 8 Filmmaking Challenge last November as part of the company’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of Super 8. A Living Doll

Character FX artists from MastersFX have created the featured creepy doll Brahms, the title character starring in Lakeshore Entertainment and STX Entertainment’s horror film, The Boy. For The Boy, which opened January 22, MastersFX’s Vancouver Studio created the title character – a four-foot tall doll that seems to rule the household of a remote manor. In the film, a young American woman, Greta, (Lauren Cohan of AMC’s The Walking Dead), takes a job as a live-in nanny in rural England. She comes to find out that the child she was hired to care for is not an actual eight-year-old boy, but instead, a life-sized porcelain doll named Brahms.

Creating a Giant Experience

One of the highlights at this year’s Sundance Film Festival’s New Frontier Program could be the five-minute virtual reality film experience Giant. Drawing on director and co-creator Milica Zec’s personal experiences as a child in war-torn Serbia, the VR narrative takes the viewer into the experience of a family struggling to survive in a war zone. The film shows how cinematic VR lets us observe our instincts and ourselves and become more conscious of the way we make choices.

Dolby Atmos Heard all over Sundance

Sundance Institute and the Dolby Institute, along with the Ray and Dagmar Dolby Family Fund have announced that Swiss Army Man, written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, written and directed by Taika Waititi, have both been selected as the 2016 recipients of the Dolby Family Sound Fellowship.

Sonichead Adopts Nugen Audio Halo for Upmixing

Boy and The Beast Opens March 4 in U.S.

Funimation Entertainment will release acclaimed director Mamoru Hosoda’s The Boy and The Beast will open on March 4 and screen in theaters across the U.S. Theatergoers will be able to purchase tickets to watch either the original Japanese language version (with English subtitles), the new English dub version produced by Funimation, or both.
