HPA Launches HPA ALL to Foster Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

Hollywood Professional Association has announced the launch of HPA ALL, a foundational new program that will drive HPA-led initiatives for outreach, education, and networking focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion within the industry. Under the leadership of ALL co-chairs and HPA board members Kari Grubin and Renard Jenkins, HPA ALL is designed to highlight career pathways and create opportunities for contributions by and visibility for underrepresented groups, which in turn, strengthens the media & entertainment community.

Filmmaker Fights Racism Against Asians with PSA Campaign

Director, writer, producer James Hu has created the Silent No More Project to bring attention to the ever-increasing hate crimes on Asians since the previous administration’s leaders used racists words to describe the COVID pandemic. The reckless and casual use of these dangerous words in their rhetoric has garnered a direct correlation to incite people to blame Asians and take verbal and physical attacks on Asians.

Buckland Appointed Cooke Optics Director of Product Management

This week, the Motion Picture Sound Editors will present George Miller with its annual Filmmaker Award, the organization’s highest honor. The Australian director is being recognized for a diverse body of work that includes Happy Feet (an Academy Award-winner for Best Animated Feature), Babe: A Pig in the City and Lorenzo’s Oil, as well as Mad Max and its three sequels. Miller has called his masterpiece, Mad Max: Fury Road, “A movie we see with our ears.”

Goldcrest Hires Colorist Steve Beganyi

Goldcrest Post has added colorist Steve Beganyi to its team of senior artists. Bringing more than 20 years of post-production experience, much of it centering on documentary films and television series, Beganyi joins a department dedicated to sound and picture finishing for docs. His recent credits include Jerusalem: City of Faith and Fury for CNN and My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman for Netflix.

One Union Recording Studios Names Joel Hopper Senior Engineer

Hopper brings 18 years of experience in the advertising and recording industries and most recently served as re-recording mixer, sound designer and picture editor at Barrell House, the in-house production unit at Bay Area ad agency Pereira O'Dell.
