Movio and Numero, the box office collection and reporting platform, have announced that they will produce Behind the Screens, a new weekly podcast providing actionable insights on the moviegoers behind the box office numbers. The podcast will feature interview segments with Vista Group studio and exhibition partners, data scientists, colleagues, and others.

NYWIFT Nominates Two Works for National Film Registry

The Women’s Film Preservation Fund of New York Women in Film & Television is nominating two WFPF-preserved films for inclusion on this year’s National Film Registry: The Wobblies, 1979, by Deborah Shaffer, Stewart Bird and Betty Tells Her Story, 1972 by Liane Brandon. Both films explore a diverse range of issues and innovative approaches to filmmaking practiced by women filmmakers.

New Digital Platform Cinnovate Secures EU Funding

A new digital platform with the working title Cinnovate has secured € 380.000 funding through the European Union programme Cinemas as Innovation Hubs for Local Communities. The effort’s partners include four of Europe’s leading arthouse cinema networks – Folkets Hus och Parker, Folkets Bio (both from Sweden), Access Cinema (Ireland) and Art kino mreža Slovenije (Slowenia) – that together count 308 screens in three territories and will be coordinated by Cologne-based video-on-demand and digital distribution experts Rushlake Media and independent consultant Jan Runge. Additional content and network partners are the Event Cinema Association (United Kingdom), Spielfabrique (Germany) and IMZ International Music + Media Centre (Austria).

Numero Launches European Theatrical Box Office Service

In the early 1990s, a vast expanse of farmland in central Zhejiang, China, was procured by the Hengdian Group. The goal was to build an expansive film studio and later adding attractions to turn it in a theme park that recreated thousands of years of Chinese history and culture. Today, Hengdian World Studios is known as the largest film studio in the world, spanning over 370 hectares. Hengdian World Studios is always looking to continue to innovate and expand for the 20 million tourists which visit each year. In its latest venture, visitors are plunged into a so-called Flying Theatre, installed inside the Qin Palace set.
