Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar Account for Half of all SVOD Customers in India
Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar accounted for 50 percent of all streaming video-on-demand subscribers in India in 2020, according to Omdia’s latest 2021 Online Video Market and Consumer Trends Report. Omidia’s principal analyst, TV and online video, consumer Constantinos Papavassilopoulos said, “The online video market of India is steadily growing its foothold in every direction. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the growth rate of an already dynamic and robust OTT market.”
NCG Cinema Opens 26th Location
NCG Cinema today unveiled their 26th location in the United States, a brand new, eight-screen theatre in Alton, Illinois. The theatre is one of the first new theatres to be constructed and open in the country following the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. The new NCG Cinema Alton is designed with more than 850 ultra-plush luxury recliners and the Dolby Digital Sound experience.
Imperial Europe’s First THX Ultimate Cinema
THX, Cinionic and Nordisk Film Cinema, today announced their collaboration to launch the first THX Ultimate Cinema in Europe, to be deployed at the Nordisk Film crown jewel, the historic Imperial Theatre in Copenhagen. THX Ultimate Cinema powered by Cinionic Giant Screen provides movie exhibitors with a branded and differentiated premium large format offering which includes laser projection from Cinionic, an immersive audio system, as well as acoustic and performance specifications and an auditorium experience that has been calibrated by THX.
UK Films Dominated European Exports in 2019
The European Audiovisual Observatory, part of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, has just released an updated edition of the report: The Circulation of European Films in non-national markets – Key figures 2019. The study, authored by Patrizia Simone, film analyst in the Observatory’s department for market information, looks at the volume and theatrical performance of European films in non-national markets, that is, theatrical film exports.
RSB Cinemas Adopts CineXpert’s e-TMS
RSB Cinemas has become the first Dutch exhibitor to adopt a fully cloud-based theatre management system. The independent group has selected CineXpert’s e-TMS for its six cinemas across the Netherlands.
Global Box Office Showing Signs of Recovery
All box office regions have reported some notable positive news in recent days as recovery continues to be seen in different pockets around the world, according to the latest research from London firm Gower Street Analytics. However, the report continued, arguably the most important was the re-opening of Los Angeles. Coming just a couple of weeks on from the re-opening of another key Domestic market, New York City, the re-opening of Los Angeles (and a number of other counties) boosted California’s market share of open theatres from 13 percent a week ago to 45 percent this past weekend.
Muvi Cinemas Converts to Vista Cinema TMS
Muvi Cinemas of Saudi Arabia is converting all its theatres to Vista Cinema theatre management software. All existing sites have been converted to Vista Cinema’s software suite, including Film Manager, full food and beverage management tools together with new application, Serve, and the extensive Vista Loyalty functionalities.
Cinemark Opens Totem Lake Theatre
The grand opening of Cinemark’s Totem Lake and XD theatre within The Village at Totem Lake in Kirkland, Texas was held last Friday, March 19. “Cinemark is thrilled to be opening a brand-new theatre in The Village at Totem Lake,” said Cinemark CEO Mark Zoradi.
Image Nation Abu Dhabi Launches Cultural Exchange with Israel Film Fund
Image Nation Abu Dhabi has launched a series of webinars in partnership with the Israel Film Fund to foster the exchange of cultural content and support filmmakers in the two countries. The webinar series, titled Film Exchange: Abu Dhabi - Israel, will focus on critical areas within production, talent development and filming in both Abu Dhabi and Israel as a way to encourage collaboration and co-productions between Image Nation and the IFF.
