Cineplex today announced that it had added new immersive theatre formats 4DX and ScreenX in locations across Canada. The multi-sensory 4DX experience is now open at three new locations: Cineplex Cinemas Winston Churchill in Oakville, Ontario; Cineplex Cinemas Hamilton Mountain in Stoney Creek, Ontario; and Scotiabank Theatre Edmonton in Edmonton, Alberta.
Sony Pictures Entertainment is releasing Jumanji: The Next Level for CJ 4DPlex’s 4DX multi-sensory, motion synchronized seating and for the 270-degree panoramic screens of ScreenX. The film opens in North American theatres nationwide on December 13.
Cinépolis will make its entry into Northern California on November 22 with the soft opening of Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas San Mateo. The 837-seat, 10-screen, 50,042-square-foot luxury theatre will serve as the entertainment anchor for Hillsdale Shopping Center.
Cineworld has renovated its Newport Spytty Park theatre with three premium formats to create the most immersive cinema in Wales. Mo Williams, general manager of Cineworld Newport Spytty Park said, “We are absolutely delighted to be the first in the area to open 4DX, ScreenX and Superscreen [auditoriums] in the one cinema. I can’t wait to welcome movie fans from Newport and beyond to visit the most immersive cinema in Wales.”
CJ 4DPlex and Paramount Pictures have expanded their ongoing partnership to release the action-thriller Gemini Man in the ScreenX format. Directed by Ang Lee. Gemini Man in ScreenX will be shown in theaters worldwide beginning October 2, on 233 screens, across 22 countries. The film opens in the U.S. on October 11 at Regal Cinemas, B&B Theatres and CGV Cinemas.
CJ 4DPlex, together with B&B Theatres, have launched the world’s first ScreenX Amphitheater in Overland Park, Kansas inside B&B Overland Park 16. The newly arranged auditorium, which marks the second largest ScreenX theater in the world will open with Warner Bros. Pictures’ It Chapter Two on Friday, September 6th.
B&B Theatres, the sixth largest theatre chain in North America, is adding five additional CJ 4DPlex ScreenX auditoriums across the U.S., for a total of seven by 2020. The companies partnered last year to introduce the largest ScreenX system in the world, a screen that is more than four stories tall and seven stories wide, offering moviegoers one of the most premium, immersive viewing experiences in history.
DTS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Xperi Corporation and CJ 4DPlex have announced a strategic alliance to bring DTS:X immersive audio technology to ScreenX theatres worldwide. Beginning in 2019, DTS will work with ScreenX and exhibitors to implement DTS:X technology into ScreenX locations.
Cineplex has partnered with CJ 4DPlex to open Canada’s first ScreenX auditorium today at Cineplex Cinemas Queensway and VIP in Toronto, Ontario with the debut of Warner Bros.’ highly anticipated film, Aquaman.
The monster-sized action adventure Rampage is coming to theaters in the 4DX and ScreenX formats. The film, headlined by action superstar Dwayne Johnson, will be released worldwide April 13 from Warner Bros. Pictures.
