As any good indie filmmaker knows, post-production is an extremely important part of the puzzle when it comes to creating a great independent film. The process can often become overwhelming however, and leave the indie filmmaker unsure of how to begin post-production or find a facility that caters to the specific needs of independent filmmaking. Documenting Surf Photography
Filmmaker Kellen Keene is dedicated to documenting artistic endeavors through his visuals. Recently, he was inspired to go behind-the-scenes with surfer and photographer Chris Burkard to show what it is like to be a surf photographer and to showcase how some of the images Burkard shoots are made. Keene knew every shot had to be in the moment, so he wanted a shooting package that could keep up with the quixotic personality of the surf. In Production
Shooting in Tight Spaces
A major portion of director Todd Robinson’s submarine thriller Phantom, starring recent Golden Globe Award-winning actor Ed Harris, was filmed in the confines of an actual Russian submarine. Blocking became extremely important for cinematographer Byron Werner and gaffer Steve Lundgren while down in the cramped sub. They had to have a very precise lighting approach. If an actor missed his mark by inches, he would be out of his lighting. Coming Soon

Motion Picture Sound Editors Honor Ang Lee
The Motion Picture Sound Editors presented director Ang Lee with its annual Filmmaker Award. The honor recognizes Lee for a body of work (which includes such films as Brokeback Mountain; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and The Ice Storm) remarkable for its diversity, visual and auditory brilliance and emotional storytelling. Lee’s most recent film Life of Pi has been widely praised as a cinematic marvel and for its poetic telling of the tale of a young Indian man marooned in the Pacific Ocean with a Bengal tiger.
