Named one of the Best Movies of 2013 by film site Rotten Tomatoes with a 100 percent fresh tomato meter Dave Grohl’s directorial debut Sound City remains atop the iTunes documentary charts for the second week in a row in the U.S. and 15 countries and jumped to the top spot of the Amazon Documentary chart in Blu-ray pre-orders. A critics’ darling since last month’s Sundance debut fans have reacted with equal enthusiasm writing more than 600 customer reviews on iTunes. Theatrically Sound City is attracting global audiences with over $500 000 in box office gross in the first twenty days of release and dozens more theatrical engagements scheduled over the next several months.  One-week runs in NYC and LA have been repeatedly extended by audience demands with both markets beginning their fourth week this Friday as the film continues to draw repeat business to theaters. The film had its UK premiere last month along with another sold-out Sound City Players show at the London Forum. Sound City’s grassroots distribution strategy to release day and date globally is blazing a trail as theatrical VOD and direct to consumer has grossed the film a combined $1.5 million in its first days of release.   It is available for purchase DRM-free direct from the filmmaker at http://soundcitymovie.com and through iTunes at http://bit.ly/SoundCityiTunes. The film is also available worldwide on demand with more than 100 operators.
