On September 26, Sony Pictures Post Production Services will welcome leading innovators from across the world of motion picture sound as host of the Second Annual Mix Presents Sound for Film Conference and Exhibition. The theme for this year’s event, co-sponsored by the Motion Picture Sound Editors and the Cinema Audio Society, will be Music, Effects and Dialog in an Immersive World. It will explore the current boom in immersive sound technologies through speakers, panels, workshops and exhibits. Participants will include DTS, Dolby, Yamaha, Auro Technologies and other sound companies.

“The emergence of immersive sound technologies is revolutionizing and enriching the movie-going experience,” said Sony Pictures Post Production services executive vice president Tom McCarthy. “We are very excited about the creative possibilities of these new formats and look forward to sharing the experiences and insights of our industry colleagues and friends.”

Sony Pictures Post Production Services also hosted last year’s inaugural Mix Presents Sound for Film Event. That event, which included welcoming remarks from Sony Pictures studio operations executive vice president/general manager Randy Lake and a keynote address from two-time Academy Award-winning mixer Randy Thom, drew overflow crowds of sound mixers, editors, engineers and technology developers.

This year’s event promises to be bigger and better with panel discussions on music, dialog, sound effects and immersive sound, as well as a sound master class series with sessions from the industry’s top technology companies. Three-time Academy Award-nominee Mark Mangini, MPSE, will deliver the keynote address. Events will take place throughout the Sony Pictures Post Production complex, including the renowned Cary Grant Theatre, William Holden Theatre, Kim Novak Theatre, Anthony Quinn Theatre, Burt Lancaster Theatre and the Barbra Streisand Scoring Stage.

Several sound artists from Sony Pictures Post Production Services will take part in panel discussions including music mixer Joseph Magee and re-recording Mixer Kevin O’Connell on the Music Panel; re-recording mixer Mandell Winter on the Sound Effects Panel; and re-recording mixer Michael Minkler on the Mixing Panel.

The all-day event begins with a breakfast sponsored by GC Pro and concludes with a cocktail reception and special movie screening.
