Digital District has acquired Pipeline FX’s Qube! software to manage linked render farms from China to Paris.“Qube! gives us all the flexibility we need for our current and future projects,” said Dave Lajoie, research and development director at Digital District. “It was important to find a cross-platform solution with a strong Python API that would allow us to control every aspect of our processes. Qube! is that solution.”

With a new Montreal facilty, and a 3D animated feature in production, Digital District will be automating rendering tasks that are essential, but don’t require human intervention. “We want our creatives to focus on what they are hired to do: create,” added Lajoie. “With Qube! we feel confident that we can tackle our next feature film that involves 1,500 shots, 200 characters and the task of digitally rebuilding Paris in the 1880s without the added stress of managing every process. Now, every computing device will be harnessed and controlled by Qube!, which will keep us competitive by reducing costs and maximizing our production’s rendering resources.”

When looking for a render farm manager, the Digital District team wanted to trust that the product they were buying had been designed for production. Finding a production-proven render dispatcher, backed by industry veterans became a high priority. Qube! bested all other options on the market due to its world class support team and customization features.

“From our research, it was obvious that PipelineFX had devoted years and years to making Qube! a strong product,” continued Lajoie. “Now with some peace of mind, the process of customizing our render pipeline for new software doesn’t seem so bad. In fact, it seems downright easy.”
