The opening episode of the Digital Cinema Show is now on-line and ready to view. The magazine format web series from the Digital Cinema Society is designed to help keep viewers current on cinema technology while also covering the art and business aspects of the entertainment industry.
Episode One features three interviews, the first with Andy Maltz, managing director of the Science and Technology Council of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Program host, James Mathers, a cinematographer and founder of DCS, sat down with Maltz at Cine Gear Expo where he described the Technology Council’s varied efforts including the new Academy Color Encoding System.
In another segment, Mathers caught up with industry pioneer Larry Thorpe, a Senior Fellow with Canon USA, at the last CES convention. Thorpe had just been awarded the Charles F. Jenkins Lifetime Achievement from the Television Academy for his body of work advancing digital image acquisition. In this interview, Thorpe reminisces about the early days of digital cinema, lists milestones to progress, and describes what he sees for the future.
Episode One concludes with an extensive interview with renowned visual effects expert and cinematographer, David Stump, ASC who joins Mathers to discuss his new book, Digital Cinematography.
