FuseFX has appointed visual effects industry veterans Randall Rosa and Wendy Lanning to head its production facility in Vancouver. Rosa will lead the creative team as head of production/senior VFX supervisor. He brings more than 20 years of experience in senior creative and management roles, including posts with Stan Winston Digital and Digital Domain. Lanning arrives as executive producer and will oversee client relations, business development and strategic planning.
John Heller, a highly accomplished visual effects supervisor whose credits include such films as Big Miracle, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief and The Bourne Legacy, has joined the staff of FuseFX. Heller, based at the company’s Los Angeles studio, has already contributed to a number of television projects, including the series CSI: Cyber, The Outsiders and Rush Hour.
Hybrid post-production facility Cognition has completed construction of a 4K digital intermediate theatre as part of its ongoing multi-million dollar expansion.
Animation, visual effects and design company Blur Studio has hired Eric Maurer, character effects supervisor and Oded Raz, asset supervisor. Maurer and Raz will bolster Blur's leadership team, increase the studio's capacity for larger projects, and foster the development of new technology as the company gears up for the next round of feature work by Blur co-founder and Deadpool director Tim Miller.
Burbank-based AlphaDogs recently completed the post on writer, director, producer Robert McGinley’s new cyberpunk musical thriller Danger Diva. AlphaDog’s lead colorist and founder Terence Curren created the look for the film, which was shot entirely in 5K.
Rodeo FX completed nearly 200 visual effects shots for The Legend of Tarzan, including action sequences with CG hippos and crocodiles, where realistic water interaction was critical for the success of the shots. The studio’s VFX work helped lift these animal sequences to a level where they look like scenes from a nature documentary. Along with butterflies and leaf cutter ants, Rodeo FX created a pod of hippos, including one ‘hero’ hippo that attacks Jane, as well as a bask of crocodiles seen in the final sequence of the movie.
The Colonie recently teamed with Burrell Communications to provide editorial, VFX and design services for I Do, a commercial introducing the 2017 Toyota Corolla. The commercial opens with a young woman behind the wheel of her Toyota. She arrives at a city park and her friends help her yarn bomb the surroundings – from hand-knitted tree trunk covers to a slipcover for a loveseat and a garbage pail cozy in the likeness of whimsical character.
In a further strengthening of its Los Angeles production staff, FuseFX has added three veteran visual effects producers. They include Sean Tompkins, a two-time Emmy nominee who previously served as associate head of production at Zoic Studios. Also new to FuseFX are VFX producers Danielle Bemis and Miles DeLong.
For the third consecutive year Rodeo FX has won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects on HBO’s Game of Thrones. The VFX studio won the award for its work on Battle of the Bastards, the ninth and perhaps most memorable episode in Season 6.
Autodesk has announced the Flame 2017 family extension 1 release for professional 3D visual effects, compositing and finishing. The update includes new 3D scene navigation features and enhancements, collaborative workflow enhancements for working with Autodesk and third-party 3D animation tools, a new way of working with multichannel render passes, render quality improvements, better color management and batch compositing enhancements including a new compass tool.
