CinemaNext recently debuted its new premium format Sphera theatre concept at Village Cinemas in the Mall of Athens. Combining the latest in projection, audio and lighting technologies, the Sphera theatre at Village Cinemas includes an 82-foot wide wall-to-wall screen, 669 luxury seats, 4K digital video projectors and a high-quality Dolby Atmos surround sound system. In order to provide a unique and innovative movie going experience, CinemaNext decided to incorporate Martin VDO Sceptron LED video fixtures to create a dynamic lighting system that complements the visuals on the screen.

H. Loren Nielsen has joined Xperi Corporation as vice president, content relations and strategy. Nielsen will serve as the studio liaison for DTS:X object-based immersive sound technology from DTS, a wholly owned Xperi subsidiary.

QSC has introduced the SB-118F and SB-218F new flyable subwoofers designed for low frequency enhancement in Cinema applications. The subwoofers feature integrated handles and eight built-in mounting points making them ideal for safe and easy suspension from ceilings or walls.
CJ CGV, the largest film distributor and cinema chain in Vietnam, has installed Harman audio systems in 24 theaters across seven CGV locations in the country. Goldenduck International, a Harman Professional distributor in Vietnam, supplied and integrated the installation, which included JBL cinema speaker systems and Crown power amplifiers.
FlixCinema is a new chain of Indonesian movie theatres, designed to appeal to all audiences by offering a range of facilities aimed at different budgets. It has five auditoriums labeled silver, gold or platinum, according to the facilities they offer. The premium-priced platinum hall offers the highest level of comfort, featuring a premium lounge, fully reclining luxurious seat, soft blanket, side table and a USB charger for all patrons.
GDC Technology announced today that its immersive sound system has been installed, or has commitments for more than 750 screens, operated by a host of theatre companies around the globe. Within the Asia-Pacific region, China has the highest growth rate of DTS:X installations, increasing the number of screens by 39 percent in 2017.
Later this month Emagine Entertainment will unveil its Super EMAX theatre, which features a 92 feet wide by more than 48 feet tall screen. The company says it is the largest movie screen in the State of Michigan. Located at Emagine’s Novi location, the theatre’s grand opening will take place December 15 with the first showing of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Classic Cinemas is installing DTS:X immersive audio technology across 16 screens at five of its locations in the greater metropolitan Chicago region. The installation has begun and will be completed by Spring 2018 at the following theatres in Illinois: Charlestowne 18 in St. Charles, Cinema 12 in Carpentersville, Lake Theatre in Oak Park, North Riverside Luxury 6 in North Riverside, and York Theatre in Elmhurst.
