This year at Sundance, more films than ever have been created with Adobe Premiere Pro, making Adobe the most used editing software at the festival for the second year in a row, based on an official Sundance survey. The majority of films (56 percent) chose Premiere Pro for editorial software.
For the first time at the Hollywood Professional Association’s Tech Retreat, this year’s Supersession will present a live production – from acquisition through post – of a short movie, in near real-time. The culmination of the production will be a screening of The Lost Lederhosen at the day’s conclusion. Joachim Zell, vice president of technology at EFilm, will be at the helm of this year’s event.

They include three films participating in the festival’s prestigious U.S. Dramatic Competition and two included in its Premieres track.
The Motion Picture Sound Editors association has elected Mark Lanza as president. Lanza is an award-winning supervising sound editor and currently serves as the organization’s treasurer. His two-year term as president begins in January. He succeeds Tom McCarthy.

The American Society of Cinematographers presented their 34th annual Outstanding Achievement Awards Saturday night at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The Theatrical Award for best cinematography in a motion picture went to Roger Deakins, ASC, BSC for 1917. Jarin Blaschke took the Spotlight Award for The Lighthouse, and Fejmi Daut and Samir Ljuma won the inaugural Documentary Award for Honeyland.
Radiant Images, a subsidiary of Hawkeye Systems, has introduced Meridian, an innovative light field capture system that aims to push the next evolution of immersive content creation and filmmaking. The company says the Meridian represents the Holy Grail for content: photographic 6DoF or six degrees of freedom.

The festival, which says it is New York City’s fastest growing film festival, is looking for the best in independent film of all lengths and genres. That includes drama, comedy, horror, sci-fi, fantasy, documentary, experimental, LGBTQ, and animation.
Arts Alliance Media is providing its Screenwriter Theatre Management System and software support to the Sundance Film Festival for the fourth consecutive year. Sundance Institute will use AAM’s Screenwriter TMS at six 2020 Sundance Film Festival screening locations across Park City, Salt Lake City and the Sundance Mountain Resort in Utah, from January 23 to February 2.
